Today I fired up the Maro for the first time in months. Good news; it started easy and runs fine at idle. Bad news; when it gets into mid-range RPMs it stumbles and runs very rough. I've looked/listened for vacuum leaks but I don't think that would be it since I replaced all the vacuum lines last summer. Any thoughts on what else I should check?
One thing I want to check is the timing but I don't have a timing light. Any chance I can borrow one from a fellow crewbie for long enough to check it out? |

It does sound ignition related, but I don't think the timing would be off from letting it sit. I'd look at the cap and rotor to see if they corroded, also check other usual stuff like plugs and wires. |

Yeah I thought about crap in the gas too, I think tomorrow I'll put something in to dry it in case there's water in there.
It's more than just sitting over the winter since I checked timing, I haven't checked timing on this car ever. That's why I'd really like to make sure that's good before I do much other stuff.
I had to replace the cap/rotor about a year ago, I'll check them but I suspect they are fine since they are pretty new. Wires are on snug, they look fine. They are pretty new. Didn't check plugs yet, I'll do it tomorrow. |

You can borrow my light Kelly. Did you change stores or are you still at Lloyd? I could bring it to work tomorrow if you were going to be at Lloyd during the day. Otherwise just PM me and we can figure it all out.

When I had the stock small cap HEI my car would go through a cap a year. Some reason those collect moisture and corrode more then any other. And you dont have to drive it to have it happen. Definately take a look at your cap. And add some heet, and maybe some injector cleaner to the gas if its been sitting awhile. |

I'll be darned, I never thought it would go that fast! I'll put it on the list of things to check tomorrow. I want to narrow down the list of possible culprits as quick as possible. I can't handle not driving it for much longer. I'm like a junkie past due for his fix, man! I gotta have some Maro! |

Ya.. its pretty strange with the small caps. I still get 70s vehicles in the shop that have the large cap hei, and the original cap, still in good shape. Yet I couldnt keep a good brass terminal cap on the formula for more then a year.
Also weird is that the accell distributor i'm using now has a small mopar type cap. And it has no problems at all. In fact its probably 5 or 6 years old. And been on this car 3 years. |

Probably has to do with how well the unit seals up to keep moisture out. Just a guess using my mad logic skillz. |
