I have a firebird 1989 2.6 700 R4 that did not come with a rear defroster. I got a switch and wiring but when I hooked up the switch there is no voltage coming out of the connector. ALso when I push the switch It does not lock into position. and the light does not come on.

Can some on help me out and let me know how there works on there Firebird.

If you have a spare working switch let me know. Maybe we can work something out.

Thanks

Kurbird

Make sure power is getting to the connector. Usually if an option is not installed, the FUSE is not installed, but all the wiring may be there.

I'd check there first before giving up on the switch.

I ve tried to trouble shooting the defrost switch but when I push the button the switch does not lock.

Does any of your switch lock even when there is no power.

I have even try to bench test the switch to the battery. Still no voltage going to the defroster.

If I take the power wire and jump it to the defrost wire I get power.

Hook up power to the switch many different ways to the batteery but still no power will come out of the switch.

Give me some help here.

The switch doesn't lock, when you push it down the little amber light should come on.

It doesn't

Tried to direct wire to the battery and it still would not work. I need a new switch. It might be that the switch that I got from J/Y was from a 86

Yea the switch is bad now. I also found a conector on passinger side that comes from the switch. Will go to the J/Y monday and get the relay and switch.

I hope that this does it.
