Anybody have trouble with one of the newer Meguires wax's? I've always considered them a quality product. But I used their wax on the 87 last year and just washed the car tonight. It's awful. Not only is there no wax left, even though car's been out of the weather, the surface is like sandpaper. My car has always had slick paint, but this is so rough, fibers from the wash mitt stick to the paint. Had to use the scrubber side of the mitt to get it smooth again. I'm thinking I'll have to buff before I wax now.

Wax was Meguires ultimate. Not trying that one again. Been planning on buffing and rewaxing but there's a show saturday and the weathers not cooperating. So I had some Mothers clay bar left and gave it a try. Whatever it is turns to mud with some scrubbing of the bar. But it comes off! Got the front done tonight, need more mothers to continue. Then a quick wax.

Not sure what specific wax you used. Canauba doesn't last at all in the heat of summer. It is only suitable for a show car that is constantly maintained. If you want something that lasts then you should look at modern polymers.

Also, I don't know what you are using to wash the car but certain soaps can strip away all the wax in one washing. Be careful with what soap you use in the car wash if you want the coating to last.

Meguires Ultimate which is supposed to be a modern liquid polymer. 1 step up from their NXT which i've liked fairly well. I use Meguires car wash as well. I'm not a carnuba fan, have always used polymer style wax's since back when Liquid Glass seemed to be the top.

I used to use the NXT, but recently switched to Collinite #845 Insulator Wax. This stuff is amazing.

I haven't seen any issues like yours with the waxes I've been using. I need to give my Camaro an in-depth end-of-winter detail before this weekend as well!

I stripped off all the wax last fall and did an application of the Zaino system. Didn't really believe all the hype but a very knowledgeable co-worker made the suggestion and I followed his advice. Dude!!! The car was shiny either way, but the Zaino gave it a crystal clear glass-like finish that wasn't present when using wax.

A lot of it depends on the look you want, the polymer sealants give a more reflective glass look, real canauba gives a softer gloss look. Once you have the sealant down, a canauba based detailer spray should help give it more of that real wax softness if that is the look you like.

I think for the Merc I'm going to order up some Chemical Guys Jet Seal and see how their stuff does. I would like to try Ammo NYC stuff, but I just can't get over the price tag. haha.

Hard to believe the Crew's come so far that we are actually debating wax and cleaners. Laughing Even Johns in on it!

Got the car clay bar'd that really helped alot. Think that finished off my clay bar though, stuff is falling apart now.

Hate to say what I used for wax now that you all are showing me up with your fancy stuff. But I used liquid Ice this time. Not sure how long it will last but man it has a reflection now. Nice thing is no white crap in the seams or on the rubber.

I'm all talk, I did the clay bar last weekend, and I just put some NXT I had in the garage on. I haven't dropped the coin for a higher end sealant yet, I'm going to decide which to try, and do that as the weather gets better.

All waxed. Looks like I could have spent more time yet with the bar on the hood. Will probably break down and buff it at some point. Here's some pics. And yes, that pic of my reflection is 5 min after buffing and yet there's allready dust all over it. Sad

Thanks! While I was cleaning tonight I looked at the state inspection sticker from when it was totalled. 2007! I can't believe paint is 10 years old allready. Though it kinda looks it in alot of places.

I painted mine about the same time as you painted yours, Brandon.

I was busy tonight as well. My paint still shines up OK for a first-timer paint job. I painted it when I was 17. You can see on the upper surface of the door (and a few other places not shown) that the clearcoat is starting to go however. I'll repaint it again in a year or two; the C10 is first in line.

Looking good Gabe. You actually managed to get a pic without dust even. I actually had to hit mine with the car duster before the pic. Sad Depending on how well this Ice lasts, I'll probably end up going back to NXT.

I see a paint job in my future too.. Not sure if I want to be the one to do it though. Also, a 383 is still nagging at me. If I do that I want the motor going in before paint.
