I'm just as happy as you are to see that car on the road after many years of mature responsible adulting. Sorry if I'm laying it on too thick.
I thought that joke was clever... _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Ya. Gabe swap was quick. Mine will take long time. I will buy parts as I can and as cheap as I can. Stockpile them. Then probably sell them off when a better motor is around. Lol. That what I did with this motor. It heads cam. Water pump. Gasket kit. Etx. Tore it down. Then decided I want to go ls. |

I'll tell you. His car sitting for 20 years or however long and then living again gives me hope. Or gives me delusions. Not sure which. But mine has only been sitting for 3 years now. Finally sold off all my 1st Gen motor parts. And trans. So I can't look back now . For the price of the ls swaps now days, vs a built first gen sbc, I can't really think of why not go the ls route. Looking at pnp prices seems like I can get trans on motor less then 600. |

The key thing is to make sure the car is just a hobby, meaning it is funded with cash and you've met all other obligations first. Take care of family, fund your retirement, build the emergency fund at home.... car is last priority. That's why I took so long. And at that point you can't help but have some fun. |

I couldn't agree more. Especially with 5 kids. So I think for now I am gonna try and just get it driving as cheap as possible. Then I can start buying and collecting parts to build a turbo ls when I can. I want to eventually go with tubular k member. A arms. And so on. But I can't justify spending over a grand right now when I can use what I got. So basically I Gonna use as much of truck ls as I can , and probably just buy a cheap hood and put cowl on it for truck intake |

I suspect an LSx intake may be cheaper and easier to obtain than a thirdgen cowl hood, but I may be wrong, it's been known to happen. |

Intake isn't the problem, the alternator is. Front drive from an F-Body goes for $600+ used. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

The Dirty Dingo low mount is $90. Does it whack the K-member or something? |

You need the $90 alt bracket, the $40 PS bracket and a Camaro alternator and power steering pump for another couple hundred. Cheaper than $600+, but still a solid $300ish in to use the Dingo mounts.
F-Body oil pan, pickup tube and dipstick is necessary as well. There's another couple hundred.
LS1 intake and exhaust manifolds will fit, it's pretty easy to find an intake for under $100 and manifolds for around $50. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

A 2" cowl hood from Jegs is $305 plus freight shipping. The Dingo mounts are still cheaper.
This is why I made a strong recommendation for staying gen-1. You cannot do a truly budget gen-3 swap into such a small car. Truck or fullside car? Sure. Thirdgen, not so much. |
