Anybody have experience with these? They are a cheaper version of the performer head. They're still made in USA but have smaller 1.25" valve springs and aren't machined for larger springs. Vortec style combustion chamber and 185cc ports. Supposedly outflow vortec heads and dont start laying over above 4500 like the vortecs.

They're right around a grand for a pair. Vs chinese heads at $800 or my 2nd choice which would be the jeg's aluminum head for a couple hundred more.

Right now just research. Going to change the rear main in the jeep this week. It's not making any bad noises but afraid of what could be in the oil pan.. So holding off before I spend my money.

I remember when those heads first came out. I had a ZZ4 with the Fast Burn heads in my '68 Elky and those E Street heads were a good improvement based on magazine tests.

I'm still debating brands. Promaxx has some excellent pricing. They look to be the current version of patriot. Also for a few $$ more... brodix iron killers.

Paul your heads were Procomp weren't they? I know you had some issues but they were also iron. They did perform though. What do you think?

Anyone else with experience with any of these? Looking at aluminum, angle plug, 64cc, probably in the 180-190cc port range.

Recommendations?

Found some more info. The Promaxx head sold now is a copy of the IK200 casting.

So many choices.. Dart has a nice looking 180cc aluminum head too for about same price as brodix or edelbrock.

Round and round and round I go..

Was just about to pull the trigger on the Dart 180.. Then I got to comparing flow #s. The IK180 kills it. The IK is just barely in my budget however. Then I go back to the Estreet head, and their flow #s are between the dart and brodix. Closer to the brodix actually. And much better in the camshaft range i'll be using.

All 3 cast and machined in USA. Though Edelbrock supposedly has a better casting facility. IK's are 55lbs per pair, Darts 56lbs and Estreets 59lbs. So there's alot more material in there somewhere.

Edelbrocks and Darts both have larger valve springs, brodix is still 1.25.

So for $100 less then Dart, and $250 less then brodix looks like i'm going Estreet. Actually wasn't really wanting Edelbrock, just doesn't have that serious image to me I guess. But looks like their numbers work.

Since there is actual flow numbers available I figured i'd run the camquest software and see where the power lies.

Using the current xe 256 cam it shows 374hp peaking @ 5500rpm, with 413 tq@ 4000. Average of 109 hp and 153 tq. Not too shabby.

Stepping up to a xe268 would bring it up to 393hp@ 6000 and 406tq@4000. Average 123hp/160tq.

While fun, probably not worth changing just because. And no worries bout breaking in a new cam with whats in there and working.

Something else i've discovered. Almost all info on the web says the Estreets have 1.25 springs and no helicoils.. basically cheapies. But these have 1.46 springs and all holes are heli'd. Looks like they've upgraded a bit.

Look like pretty decent castings. Way better than Edelbrock of 10 years ago.

They supposedly invested heavily in new casting tech.. I know they used to cast for Gm, not sure if they still do. But I do see that they actually have a foundry service for other industry. http://www.edelbrockfoundry.com/

Still haven't started on the project yet. But ran into something interesting yesterday. The paperwork with the heads specify a champion plug. So I thought i'd cross that over to an NGK since champion isn't my favorite spark plug. No big deal right? Well luckily I ran into an NGK service bulletin. It's specific to edelbrock heads and warns not to use the part # specified if you cross the champion number. NGK says they use alot more copper in their center electrode then champion, and that even though the heat range is the same that sucks too much heat out of the plug during start and warm up. Causing fouling and misfires. The service bulletin gave a different part # to use with edelbrocks and tells you what heat range to start with, then work your way up.

Might explain why champions always seemed to work better in dodge products where other plugs would foul.
