Two of the ports were pretty much out of place. 1 i'd say severely. The whole wall inside had to be moved to match. The rest ground out very easily. I think the hole in the gasket surface was the smallest part of the port. Just opened that up and the inside of the port matched right up.

Cam is in, timing cover and balancer installed, radiator and supports back in. Getting there.

Anybody install a Lunati cam lately? Their break in lube is a plain looking grease now. Looks better then that comp red stuff anyway.

Debating.. been de-blueing the engine bay for awhile. Just a few stray pieces of blue conduit left. Engine has been black with chrome valve covers and aluminum intake. Thinking whether it would look good with the intake powder coated chevy orange.. just the intake. I know it would keep it cleaner. I black chromed the street dominator on the poncho and it looks great still. But do I really want that neon orange throw back? hmm

I vote no on the orange.

Meh.. serves me right to trust my memory. Looks like I need to pull the cover again. Used the wrong mark on the multiple keyway timing gear. Embarassed

And after worrying all night/day I've got the timing gears set correctly again. Talk about a brain fart. Was 3 teeth off. I was so worried I'd bent the valves adjusting them with it out of time. Shocked But it still has compression so should be good to go. All back together, got the oil pump primed up and the valve covers/intake on.

New intake looks good and its big enough to cover the silicone lines on the gasket this time. Gotta reposition the coolant sensor towards the drivers side. Intake has one less coolant port then the edelbrock.

It's not orange either. I wanted to get it sealed up, and really didn't want to spray powder around with an open engine nearby. Still think it would have looked good.

Natural aluminum was the right choice.

Orange would've been way too garish. I like it natural as well.

Orange would have been awful.

Ha! But i'd been right in current style. Have you seen what the young people are painting their engines now? Orange is mellow.

I imagine that is your excuse for wearing skinny jeans as well.

Actually the wife complains about my totally opposite from skinny jeans. These wranglers are oh so relaxed. Laughing But they're the only jeans I've found that hold up and don't cost a days pay.

And its pretty much covered up. Accessories should cover the rest. Having some issues with the throttle bracket though. For some reason its a couple inches outside of where it used to sit. Coil bracket holes aren't in the same location.

Edelbrocks throttle bracket is the only one I found with hookups for the throttle, cruise, and trans that fits a qjet. There are a couple others without cruise and then the flimsy spectre crap. So I bought the bracket. Kinda spendy, its definitely strong enough though. And maybe it's just cause I'm using a weiand intake but it took alot of modifications. Also the cruise attachment ended up being the wrong size anyway. However, my cruise bracket bolted on, so only needed a couple holes drilled.

The attachment point for the original bracket was moved way outside and back from the factory point. So my cables weren't long enough and didn't line up worth a crap. New bracket uses 2 of the intake to head bolts. It was still too far back so I had to redrill the adjustment to move it forward. Easy though, only 1 hole needed. Evidently the carb pad is further forward on the weiand then on the edelbrock. This begs the question, will my hood clear? or even my strut tower brace?(no big loss there) With the way the bird hood slopes down so fast I may have air cleaner issues. Even though this intake is technically 0.05" shorter.

It's pretty amazing to me how so simple of an upgrade is causing so many issues. It's not like the SBC is a new, untested design!

It is when doing something outside the norm with it. The entire SBC aftermarket is aimed at yokels who bolt shiny Edelbrocks onto over-cammed smog motors. The concept of a triple-C with cruise control is entirely mind-boggling to the average hotrodder.

Cam broken in. Got a few things to play with a bit, like idle speed in gear. May even have to rig my ac solenoid to bump it up. My dang exhaust has settled onto the upper panhard bar brace.. so it's rattling to beat hell. Also appears to have a small oil drip. Probably because I pulled that timing cover off to move the timing gears. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, while its cooling back down for an oil change here's a short vid.
