Those Irwin extractors are pretty awesome. Looks like things have cleared off tonight. Nothing but stars out there now. So your dry day should be coming.

Do you have one of those impact drivers that you hammer on? Usually used for screws. If you use that and the Irwin socket they grab pretty good.

Cutting the bolt head into something more grabable will likely not work. You will soften the steel by heating it with your grinder and it will just twist off.

Honestly, I don't even think the Irwins can be made to work, despite Brandon's confidence.

The last time I ran into one of those bolts was on John's '89 V6 car. After exhausting several clever but less brutal ideas, I ended up cutting straight through the side of the waterpump and into the shank of the bolt with a cutoff wheel to get it off. Laughing

I most likely will use a cut off wheel, but right now I am having a devil of a time trying to remove the power steering mount to gain access the very last bolt that is trapped behind the power steering mount, my Chiltons manual is not showing me too much* Evil or Very Mad

Those manuals are garbage. Everything is better and free on the internet. Wink

The power steering bracket should be held on by like two bolts.

I'm assuming this is an LH0 car since you said the water pump had Torx bolts.

Okay looking at the diagram again it is three bolts and a nut. 4, 6, 10, and 11.

I just tried to remove the #6 bolt, but its a no go, it's in a tight spot, between the metal hose and motor mount*...my hand and fore arm are too big to allow me to get there, the only real way to remove this bolt is with a remote camera and monitor and impact wrench!

Braille it with a socket on an extension.

Or pull both nuts marked 3 and pull the whole pump away from the engine.

There was one guy who mastered pulling The Chevy Engines apart, but he moved out of our area!...The guy pulled my water pump out in like 20 minutes, I don't know where he moved to!

I don't know if I can resort to Jon's jokes, but I am not sure what more advise I can offer. If you think you have removed all of the bolts from a part and it is not loose then you have not yet removed all of the bolts.

Removing parts from a car is not some mystical skill of great gurus, I used to do it while I was drunk. I pulled both aluminum accessory mounts off of a smallblock today; took me ten minutes (I was not drunk). I'm not saying it was the easiest job in the world, but with a basic set of tools and an electric impact gun it took me ten minutes. I had to use a wobble and braille a couple, but that's just part of the job.

You just need to put on a set of gloves and yank on it, man. You can also put a large box end wrench over the end of the ratchet handle to put some serious force to it.

A stripped Torx is not going to be unstripped with more force.

So says the Chevy guru who can take bolts out.

Okay, so I did resort to making jokes.

Dammit!
