SES light came on today on the way home from work, Went to vatozone and had them throw the code reader on it. Only thing that came up was the PO440 code.

Evidently its for EGR or EVAP system, a vac leak or something in the system or something not sealing properly. Did the obvious one and loosened and put the gas cap back on. Light still on.

I see the port on the intake for an EGR valve, but mine doesn't have one.

Aaron, I know you have experience with with the later Series II 3800's, any idea where I should start looking?

Does this thing even have a charcoal cannister or an equivilent to that? I couldn't find one.

Only thing I could really see this doing is affecting fuel mileage, but I'd like to get this fixed ASAP, as driving my F250 is a killer on gas. and its a 44 mile roundtrip to and from work.

Thanks in advance crew.

The charcoal can is back by the fuel tank.

I know I always preach against throwing parts at a problem, but I would consider buying a cheapo gas cap and see if that fixes it.

It's got to see x amount of drive cycles passing the obd monitor to turn the light back off. Even if you fixed it best thing is to clear the codes. Otherwise drive three days and try again.

Check engine light is on with a trouble code P0440. DTC P0440

Average Reported Mileage:
121052

Tests/Procedures:

1. Activate the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system vent and purge solenoids.

2. Check for the EVAP system to hold vacuum with either a gauge on the service port or by monitoring the Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor (FTPS) voltage.

3. Deactivate the EVAP purge solenoid, vacuum should hold and FTPS voltage should be higher than 1.5 volts.

Tech Tips:

FTPS voltage should be about 1.3 to 1.7 volts with the gas cap off. With vacuum on the system it should go up and hold. Inspect for leaks at the fuel cap, filler neck, fuel sender o-ring, evaporative canister, evaporative vent solenoid, evaporative purge solenoid, and evaporative hoses.

What fixed it for how many people?

Borrowed a friend's code reader and cleared the codes. light went off. More to follow in the next few days. as I drive it. (Mine just crossed 136K, last week) We'll see if the light pops back on over the weekend.

Paul, thanks dude.

If SES goes back on, Go key on, The first thing is to check FTPS with a multimeter?

Is this correct?

If it comes back, I'd put a cap on it, clear it and go.
