quick question....

is there any part of the fuel system (mainly delivery) that turns on when the accessory power is turned on?

i know it's an odd question, but it seems that when i have my accessory power turned on for a long period of time (at a show for example) when i go to start it up, it blows a bunch of smoke and reaks of fuel.

if the car is just off (i disconnect the batter when not in use for long periods of time) and i go to start it, it's fine.

Answer is no.

Sounds like an injector leaking down. When it sits for long the fuel leaked evaporates rather than burns.

Question is why do you leave your car in acc at a show? Further more why do you leave your keys in it!?

When your shop was doing the injector work did they have the set done, or did they just ghetto it and replace only the one that was stuck open?

What year is this car anyhow? If it is a cold-start car it could be a failed temp sensor.

correct Xopertony. and don't worry about the keys, i have it set up so that i don't even use the keys.

when the shop did the injector work, they just replaced the leaking one. they told me it was injector #7.

when the car sits for a long time (with the batter disconnected) and i got to start it, say for a weekend show, it's not bad. But after several hours with the the ACC on/off thoughout the day, when i go to start it, it'll blow a bunch of smoke and reaks.

Also...more good news...there is now a really bad ticking/clicking sound coming from the car when it's under acceleration.

(the car is an '89)

Ticking noise under acceleration is an exhaust leak near the engine. Does this car have headers or exhaust manifolds?

'89 was the first year without cold start, which is good.

Replacing just one injector is fine to keep a cheap beater running, but it's a terrible idea otherwise IMHO.

i don't know why they only replaced one injector (this is at the GM dealership), but that's all the reciept says they did. And that still costs a fortune.

No Aaron, it's not economical in terms of a dealer trying to make money. You tell the customer what it needs, as cheap as possible, to repair the vehicle, making it most likely they'll spend their money with you.

Very few car owners are willing to spend the extra cost to replace something like 7 more injectors. Remember, this is dealer cost. Bookoo $$

A good dealer, would give you that option, however.

Delco lists a single TPI injector for $100, plus their markup and whatever the labor books at. Easy money for them.

All that versus an entire set of SVO's is like $250 off ebay, and pay a local shop to put them in.

LOL so yeah, $800+ for a set of injectors, plus additional gaskets to R&R them, plus the labor? Yeah, only the fancy folk are going to put in $1000+ on a car worth 2k, at the dealer.

Even aftermarket lists injectors that high. Napa's injectors aren't cheap either. And its not us milking the customer, napa actually charges us that much. I get parts for cost +10% and injectors are still nuts. Much better off buying a full set on the net. However, we cant do that as a shop, I mean how do you warranty net parts? If I tell a customer that they should replace $800 in injectors they're gone. Off to someone who will replace just one.

i've got an appt to take it back in on monday.
i would have been fine in spending a little more to get all the injectors done.
