Just wondering why the redline is at 5k...my stock cluster has a 5500 redline. _________________

Because somebody ordered an LG4 or low-output LB9 in an IROC.
More to the point: how sure are you that your LG4 car came factory with a 5500 redline? |

Only the hot cammed TPI motors and the L69 got the 5500 redline. All LG4, TBI and low output TPI engines had the 5000 redline. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

My Z came stock with a LG4 and a 5500 redline. I'll recheck tomorrow, but the only reason I became curious is because the 145 speedo has a 5k redline and I found that unusual. I don't think the 145 speedo was available when the L69s were in production and I thought they only offered 110 speedos in TBI cars, at least in the late 80s. I'm not sure about 90+. _________________

Speedo and tach have no correlation to each other. Tach was determined by the engine, speedo was an RPO option.
You could get the LG4 in an IROC until '88 and the low-output LB9 in it until the end of the run. |

Your car's "original" tach is likely a replacement. What did your old speedo max out at? In '85 and partway into '86 production it should have had an 85mph speedo. If yours was a 115 it was definitely replaced at some point. If your car has the LG4 RPO code then it had a 5k tach from the factory.
The 145 speedo was available on IROC with a peanut cam TPI or LG4/L03 which would have gotten the 5k redline.
LG4 was last available in '87. '88 went TBI.
If you want to you can swap the 145 speedo into your cluster or swap your 5.5k tach into the new cluster. Its easy. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Just verified it's a 5k tach. _________________
