ya know that parts car i was looking into had a nice 305 in it  and fish said he'd buy the tranny...just a thought

Not quite. Someone (not me) reefed down #7's exhaust valve rocker arm way too tight. That's why the motor wouldn't idle worth a crap. I"m guessing the added force pulled the stud out of the head and fractured the base, the rocker, pushrod and stud were all fubar. That was resolved by replacing it with another 305 head off a motor a guy was giving away.
It always had a bit of rod knock above 3000rpm but didn't get super noticable until after I changed the oil in the motor, when I did the head. It stayed like that for about a month, then one day it started getting worse, really fast...about 2 or 3 miles from the freeway offramp it would do it not just under load, but in neutral as well at all RPMs. I blipped the throttle a couple times (it liked to stall in neutral) and on its way down the last time, The engine just locked up and wouldn't start again.
I never pulled the pan, to inspect the damage, because I was already too far into the car in expenses, and had another one that was in better shape.
in hindsight, the carburator was WAAAY too rich for it, so I'm guessing a little fuel in the crankcase probably thinned the oil, and thus the rod bearings didn't get oiled properly, and boom.

well the problem is i don't have any place to put a parts car and neither does fish. but i'd be willing to pay $300 for the rear end and some of the suspension and steering pieces. and fish would most likely be in for the tranny. so that leaves you with the engine and body if you would be willing to store it at your place and have it crushed. the guy wants $600 for the whole thing but its out in Silverdale and needs to be trailered out.
its all up to you, if its too much of a hassle don't worry bout it. just a thought though. |

I have a great idea for you guys. Why don't you get someone with a trailer to go pick it up and then leave it at each persons house. That way you can take the parts you need and then have it trailered to the next person! When its all done, take it to the yard. $40/ton for scrap steel.
As long as you have room to park a trailer for a day or two.
The only problem with doing it for you guys is the money in gas it would cost for this whole operation. I'd only get 12-15 towing a car trailer with a 3000lb camaro. But I could do it. |

Yes. That holds the lifters in place so in the event of a pushrod/stud/etc failure, the lifter remains in it's bore and you keep oil pressure to the lowerhalf of the engine.
Saved my butt several times now! |

No bolts. It's a spring load that attachs to the underside of the heads. Trim the plate to fit. |

They may or may not.
The roller blocks don't need em though.
The dog bones are held down by the spider. The dog bones keep the lifters in their bore and properly aligned. |
