my TPI v8 gets 15MPG on stock tune.
my MPFI v6 gets 23MPG on stock tune.
i reeeaaallly want to get a holey commander for my GTA. then i could probably up that to 18-20 MPG. (plus run another tune for mad power) |

Why so low on that TPI? You run a high fuel pressure? |

Actually pretty easy to compare....
3.23 Geared 327 Quadjet, no overdrive.... 18MPG |

my TPI gets 15 MPG because i have headers and catback, and i drive it like i have headers and catback i could probably squeeze 16-17MPG if i drove easy.
my MPFI i drove the HELL out of, i mean like, hard acceleration most of the time, and i still get 23 city. hwy was like 30. |

i just have a feeling this car is gonna give me nothing but problems in the future, and besides, my moms trying to sell her 84 z28 camaro 305.. that wouldnt be bad i guess cause at least with a 305 i would have more options toward performance, i just dont understand how my v6 is faster than hers. oh well shouldnt be that hard too beef it up, and parts will be much easier to find since i see them pretty much everywhere.. and thanks for the sites ppl. i appreciate it since i know now im not going too do anything too beef this crap tiny motor up. oh and i broke the tranny mount, crawled under, pulled the cross-member off, took out 1 bolt to the mount, tried to take the other one, stripped the head, now i cant get it out so i had to bungee cord the damn tranny down.. lol _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. Danked - If you actually manage to get your $200 back out of it, I will be suprised. You're not getting 1K out of it unless you're the con-man of the year (no offense).
Your mom's car will almost certainly be an LG4, 140-ish HP, it's a joke, but it's a V8. Pretty much everything on that engine is a bottleneck, but you'll have better luck with it than the 2.8 IMO. Plus you might learn something along the way.
For your tranny mount, roll down to whatever auto store you have around there, and invest in pair of vice grips. If your dad has the machine shop you claim, he probably already has a pair. If that doesn't work, try and run it back in. What was wrong with the old tranny mounts anyway?
Tony - Headers and a catback will improve your mileage. What made you think a free exhaust would make it worse? |

bungee chord.....
remind me never to let you work on my car
and the reason your 3.1 was faster then your moms 84 305 is.....
1984 Z28 LG4 V8 8.6:1 5.0 (305) 150@4000 240@2400 4bbl
1991 RS LH0 V6 8.5:1 3.1 (191) 140@4400 185@3600 MFI
so provided your v6 was at one time in decent tune, it is likley your moms z28 is suffering from wear to the point where she has lost 10HP.. probably compression loss due to blowby, valve seals, head gasket.. etc.. a great many things. could be her carb is out of tune. or her exhaust is too restrictive (original cat and muffler?) etc...
one thing is for sure. we know it was not your muffler giving you extra HP _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

heh your funny tony, and yes.. i have like 10 pairs of vice grips myself... anyways.. i cant get the bolt out because i already tried that, i had it jacked up and used a grinder to try and make a new bolt head, and sorta just shaved the whole bolt head off................ _________________ Towed amaro, 2nd engine blown spent $1500 not spending more. How much is sticking out? If there's enough to get a bite on, you can try heating it and using the vice grips again. Some guys claim you can actually weld a bit of metal on to give yourself more leverage.
Tony would know more than I would, I hear he's the master at stripping bolts. |

That bolt should be around 40 ft. lbs., so it's not as bad as it could be. Do you have any left-spinning drill bits? If you do, you can try and drill STRAIGHT down the center of the bolt and see if you can back it out that way. |

because now that i have headers and catback i drive more aggresivly to hear it make theat 3k roar headers and catback can improve your mialage.... but in a real world situation they usualy don't
for real though, i though 15MPG was good for a lightly modded 350? |

dude, for real. a cold air intake needs to be positioned to get to some cold air.
check out my raging 2.8L shizzle
shazam. there is also a hole cut in the "battery tray" thing that used to house the stock air box. |

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but on a EFI car, the amount of air is measured by the MAF/MAP/ect. and proper fuel is added. The fact that the engine is doing less work on the exhaust cycle has nothing to do with it. |
