|
|
I checked my wheels after work today, had a little play on the passenger side, figured it was my adapter needed mo' tightening. I went home, grabbed the jack and lug wrench, came back and pulled the wheel. I started moving things and it turns out my adapter was still perfectly tight, but my nearly-new slightly-used 2000 mile wheel bearing seems bad. It wasn't this way yesterday when I was driving it around all fat dumb and happy. I checked the lugs and end-play about 3 times yesterday as I was driving it around. I have maybe 25 miles on these spindles since I got the car going again. It doesn't make any noise yet, but there is barely noticeable play in the bearing when grabbing the wheel and yanking back and forth.
Given that I work about 16 hour days all week long (so can't find the time to do it myself), this whole thing is dependent on whether or not I can afford to have a shop put a new wheel bearing in and whether they can get the parts by Friday. Also if a shop will even work on this thing or not due to the mods.
Might be good with a repack and re-torque on the front wheel bearing I guess. I'll try that first if I can snag some time away from work this week. Never trust anyone else's work, I should have repacked them when I put the new spindles on. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

| If you are going to repack them, its not much more effort to put new ones in. |

I was hoping for quick-and-dirty pop the cap and the dude I bought them from forgot the cotter pin or something stupid. If I actually need to repack or put new bearings in, I don't think I'll have time this week. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Ian a great offer.
You better take him up on it Gabe.
I have to work all weekend and wouldn't be able to rescue
you. You don't want to miss out on all of the festivities. |

Fellas, meet my dad. Great first post.
Yes, Ian, it is sitting outside (even dry in the carport!) and I would probably kiss your shoes and be your slave for a predetermined amount of time if you slapped new bearings in it. I'll take a look tonight and see if it is something easy. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Update:
M**********r left the cotter pin out on one side. Nut was about 1/8 turn loose. Followed the recommended wheel bearing torque procedure and it feels good as new. I even put a cotter pin in! Idiots. Hopefully only driving roughly 20 miles on a barely loose wheel bearing hasn't toasted it.

| Now that you've conquered your wheel bearing problem, what are you going to do? "I'm going to cows!!" |

Have fun, Probably not as fun as being Ian's personal slave though...
Stop by on your way home if you get the chance. |
