So my factory gauge never really moves much. It hangs around 40psi. I've got a Melling pump with high pressure spring. According to what atleast my rear main bearing looked like, I've got oil there. When I start the car with the valve cover off, I've got TONS of oil pressure.

The passage ways were cleaned before putting the engine together.

So I bought an autometer oil pressure gauge, put the sender in the same place (sender adapter was cleaned thoroughly before installing on engine) and now she reads about 20psi cold startup and works it's way up to about 40 and hangs there unless I'm at a constant cruise on the freeway.

Mechanical gauges come up slow. Hate to say it but with 2 gauges differing its real hard to tell which is correct. Just cause its new doesnt mean anything. Do your solid lifters have piddle valves? Back in the jurassic motors used to require restrictor plugs to run solid lifters. I doubt theyre required now, but its something to ask about.
