|
|
Hey,
The owner before me bought brand new hatch struts (the right ones, not some custom jeep work lol) but the damn things won't hold the hatch open. They definitely put up some resistance and one time when I was parked aiming down a steep driveway they worked but on flat ground they will not hold the hatch open. Is there a way to adjust them that I haven't seen yet?
It's a 91 Camaro RS if anyone was wondering.
Thanks,
Adam |

I have never seen any adjustable struts. If they aren't holding the hatch up then they need to be replaced.
If it was the hood struts, there were actually two different kinds; 1 for steel hoods and 1 for fiberglass hoods.

Were there different struts for the heavier hatches (i.e. Bird spoilers)?
Regardless, it sounds like it's time for a new set. |

Ahh just looked it up and there are two different ones Aaron. One for base models and one for the hatch with spoiler and/or wiper.

John and I learned about that when we installed the fiber-glass hood. _________________

Yeah, the fiberglass hood didn't like that extra resistance!
Those hatches are a damn sight heavier than you might think! The struts on my '84 were completely shot when I got it. I thought the hatch was stuck closed until I put some weight behind it and got it to budge. If you're gonna change out the struts, it would be wise to have a second person to hold up the hatch. Although if your struts are partially functioning, you could probably do it by yourself. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Alright, thanks. Anyone have any for sale? Mine's an RS no wiper and duck bill so I would assume any would be strong enough. |
