|
|
Hi, everyone it has been a long time since i have talked to anyone, i think it was last year dyno gathering. Any way i have done a few things to my car and had a question. First off at the end of last summer i bought a 93 m29 T56 and installed it in my car. I know the 93's have a lower tq rating but i love the gear ratios. In the process of putting the T56 in my dad made our X mem out of aluminium. Ok so it looks more like a Y member, i will take a pic soon. Since the stock t56 shifter is two pieces my dad and i mad our own top half. Recently i had to pull the trany back out, allway make sure you put lock tight on the clutch fork bolt, so i put in a new clucth and my dad and i modified the bottom half of the shifter. We cut the lower section, below where it bolts to the tranny, in half and welded in a 1/4 inch extention and then made a spacer to fit between the shifter plate and the tranny. This dramaticly reduce the throw of my shifts. I would show you a pic of the shifter if you knew how to post a Pic.
Now for my question, soon we are going to cut my springs and i was just wandering if anyone knew how much to cut them, a good amount.
Thanx for any replys.

I would start at 1/2 or 3/4 coil, and see how it does, you might trim more.
Ask cheezy what happens if you cut to much at first. |

If you want a little stiffening and maybe 1/2-1" lower, cut half a coil..... Just make sure it's HALF right Cheesy?
I cut 1/2 coil off my rear coils, and added a 2nd set of insulators and got a bit of stiffness and it raised the back up net about 1/2" from where it was. The insulator was about an inch thick. |

Hey, that saved myself some time. Would've had to go back and cut another 1/4 coil off anyway.
I cut 1 coil front, 1.5 rear and removed rear isolators. Car is sitting nice right now, maybe the rear is a tad too high. I had to put the front isolators back in to keep it off the bumpstops (and these are short aftermarket bumpstops). Now I have at least 1/4" of travel before hitting them (not that I'd need that much ). That's on WS6 springs and a 3250lb car.

They are canadian pounds, it has to do with the gravitational pull as you get further away from the equitor. |

I stopped at a set of truck scales on the way home tonight and mine weighs 3350 with out me and 3/4 tank of gas. There was a few pounds worth of crap that I shouldn't need on the track too, like a .44 Mag rifle and some tools. |

WTF! Both truck scales I've been on I'm 3750 with me and half a tank. That's 3550 w/o me! |

Actually I weighed it in kilograms, which being a measurement of mass instead of weight, does not change with gravity. Then I converted to pounds. Metric system up here
Rodney's car sounds about right. Swap aluminum heads for the cast iron ones and take off the impact beams then he'd be around where I'm at. |

I'm right up there with you. 3700 with me and a half tank. Although mine's missing the roof. _________________

My car weighed 3200 with a sub box, now gone, before i did the trany swap and i had a t5. The box weighed about 40-50 lbs and the trany weights 75 lbs more then the t5 so that about where i am at. |
