Saw it waiting in the disassembly yard to be dropped in the main yard. They don't drop on weekends, so it will go out tomorrow or Monday.
Looked to be an '84 Z28. Brown or very dirty silver. T-tops. Had a 700R4, and (presumably) a 305. Had a crossfire hood, although I couldn't tell if it was functional, or if it was glass or metal. I'll roll back out there tomorrow afternoon to see if it's dropped yet (and if it's got anything good on it ). |

I didn't go in (was raining pretty good) but I drove past and the car wasn't in the row waiting for drop, so it's in the yard.
If the weather is clear tomorrow after the car show, I can swing by my house, grab some grubby shop clothes, and go get it with John real quick.
If there's any good parts on it after the Mexicans and Bruce get done with it, we can grab them to. |

what's the part called anyways? Rock Auto is referring to something as a shift linkage bushing...is that what we're looking for? _________________

Crap if I know.
There's a metal bracket that bolts onto the transmission via two of the pan bolts. It holds a bulbous plastic thing on the end of the shifter cable. Something in that assembly is broken (either the bracket or the plastic, most likely the latter) which is causing the cable and housing to move around instead of the cable sliding like it should.
At the prices Pull-A-Part charges, I would be tempted to just buy the whole damn thing; cable, bracket, clips, and everything. Whole mess shouldn't cost more than ten bucks.
*edit:
I might have one in my Dad's garage from my 700R4 swap. I'll have to check tomorrow after the show. |

James and I went out today after the car show. The Z28 is still in disassembly (although not in the row, so it must be in the bay somewhere). I talked to the boss dude and he said it would be out there Monday, so I'll roll by after work.
Apologies if I misinformed anyone. |

| Once it hits the yard, check that front bumper bracing. Some of them early ones got alumn bumpers rather then steel. |

So I got off work early, and it wasn't pouring, so I swung by the yard. That car is a clusterf**k of tweaker redneck-ery.
It is an '84. It was originally a T-5 car, which was converted to a 700. It still has the T-5 pedals, and it has the clutch reservoir with bracket. Don't know the condition of the master, but it looked kinda smashed.
The morons screwed a Washington state license plate over the hole in the tunnel, then screwed the auto shifter to that. For some reason there was a carb return spring holding the shifter forward into park. They bottom of the battery tray consisted of two pieces of 1/4 ply. The battery hold down was a bunch of zipties.
James was on the phone with me and we debated whether it was originally an L69 car. It has the "H.O." badges, and the electric fan, but it has the standard airbox snorkel.
Electric fan is still out there.
Carb is gone.
Interior is black. Soft parts are in horrible condition, but if you need black plastics I can grab some.
Dash pad has two or three small cracks (under one inch) so it would be an upgrade if yours is cratered, but otherwise no.
Glovebox door is in good shape.
Steering wheel is shot. Looks like a T/A wheel anyhow.
Seats look like T/A seats. Dark grey vinyl. Not in the best shape.
Rear axle is open drum with unknown ratio
Hood is steel non-operational crossfire. Has some dents, but could probably be salvaged.
John:
I have the shifter bracket and cable. I also grabbed the upper fan shroud as James claimed yours was cracked. You guy's working this weekend?
Dan:
I have the delete box. I did not grab the HVAC controls; unsure if you need those or not. Motor spun freely and did not squeak. Will test the motor and get you a quote with shipping this weekend.
Al:
I cannot for the life of me remember what parts you wanted. Some seat hinge thing or something? If you want I have two Camaro seats sitting in my shop that no one wants even for flippin' twenty bucks, so you can come out and rob what you need off of them. I'll just sit in them and drink beer anyhow.
Jay:
I neglected to check the bumper. Did you want one of the aluminum ones specifically, or were you just curious? |

How about $10 and Aaron gets muddy?!?! And I'll hook him up with some caffinated beverages! And yes Aaron, we are going to attempt to do something though the weather may slow us down a bit. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

Weather my eye. You guys are spoiled or something.
And I didn't get muddy. There was a huge puddle under the front and rear of the car, but the center had a nice high spot for me to lay on and unhook the cable bracket. |
