Mine wasn't originally TPI.
Simplest way to hook up heater core hoses:
One goes to the waterpump.
Other one goes to the intake manifold by the thermostat housing.
If you're using the heater bypass control valve thingamajig, I have no clue what goes where. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

No valve:
Driver line goes from heater core to rad.
Pass. line goes from heater core to the intake manifold port.
With valve:
Pass. line goes from heater core to bottom port on valve.
Driver line goes from heater core to pipe on subframe.
Upper port on the valve goes to the t-fitting on the metal pipe.
Other end of the metal pipe goes to the rad.
Side port on the valve goes to the intake.
Don't forget the vacuum line from the HVAC controls to the top of the valve.
Clear as mud?
Probably have to be logged in at TGO to see the pic. |

ok so i guess im not using a valve, the water pump has a plug in the hole now, should i put in a plug so i can connect the heater core hose to it?
the intake manifold has a spot but it has the hose connected to it that comes down off the throttle body, and the throttle body has a coolant hose on the side of it too
so could i connect the heater hoses to the TB and the water pump? i dont think i have a spot for it on the radiator _________________

TB heater needs to go. Get some line and loop one end into the other. A cooler TB is a good thing for anyone not living in Alaska.
Did you have a diverter valve on the old motor? Just hook it up exactly the way it came off.
Or better yet, bypass it, fire the engine, break it in, and hook the heater up next winter. |

With thirdgen luck, if you kept the heater core disconnected that long as soon as you did plumb it in to the system it'd pop! _________________

ok so loop the hose from the right side of the TB to the front, and the way it came out, was one hose from heater core to water pump and one heater hose to the intake manifold
so which one goes to which _________________

I've never known how you're "supposed" to hook it up. I'm sure someone will be along to tell me I'm wrong, but if I were you I'd just hook it up to whatever. I can't see how it would make a big difference, if any at all. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

I was taught that you want to hook the upper line to the intake, and the lower line to the rad or pump because the coolant naturally sinks as the blower motor sucks air across it, and hooking it up that way causes the hottest water to be pumped in the top.
That probably also made a lot more sense back before both lines were parallel next to each other, and you had to stand on your head to see them. |
