So, I have a noise under my hood, sounds like it's coming from the accessories, that sounds like a bad bearing. I put a stethescope on all my accessories, and it sounded like the alternator had a bad bearing, it was making a whine and a clunk, so I swapped it out. Still making the noise. I noticed some play in the shaft for the water pump, that the pulley mounts to, so that's the next likely culprit, but it didn't make much noise when I put a stethescope on it. Any ideas on other things to check, I am hoping it's not a bad crank bearing, or I shouldn't have paid 3k for the car. Neutral I have put around 3k on it since I bought it, and it's made the noise the whole time, I was just pretty sure it was a bad alternator bearing.

Tensioner? have you listened to it? Seen alot of good components replaced when it was just a simple pulley tensioner making noise and/or worn out.

I don't have any tensioners, I have a belt for every accessory, cars had a 350 swapped in, I have some docs showing the engine swap 25k ago.

Pull the belts off one at a time then and see where the sound goes away.

Gonna do the water pump this weekend, I'll figure it out for sure then, I can watch the water pump pulley wobble around slightly, and it had almost a full 1/8th inch of play, up and down. I'm about 100% it's that now. Smile

I bought a TPI Trans Am not too long ago for $500 because the owner thought it had a bad rod knock. It had a bad water pump bearing that was rattling around. New waterpump, good as new!

Sounds like you got it nailed. The T/A waterpump I had was loose and floppy like yours and made tons of noise as well.
