Hey, so my GF's Jeep has high oil pressure all of a sudden. It has always been right around 40 psi, it's at 70-80 now. Fresh oil change, etc. Aside from the sending unit and gauge, is there anything else it could be other than a half blocked oil passage, or a partially spun cam or rod bearing? Looking for things to check before I pull the motor. _________________ 1986 Camaro Z-28 IROC-Z 350 swap |

Not yet, I will tonight. Rule out the sending unit and gauge, just seeing if anyone had any ideas for things to check while I'm looking around tonight. She still is complaininga bout lack of power, I had her take it to work today, figured if it spun a bearing while she's driving, it will at least pin point the problem. _________________ 1986 Camaro Z-28 IROC-Z 350 swap |

Unless something go plugged just after the sending unit, pressure wont go up, only down with age baby! Just like the twins.
Def check with a mech gauge. Electric sending units are notorious for failures and inaccuracy. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

Yeah, if a bearing started to spin, and only moved a bit, half blocking an oil passage, it could cause this, and with loss of power happening at exactly the same time, it seems probable. I have had that happen in an engine before, high oil pressure was the only symptom, tore the engine down, and sure enough, half spun bearing.
Here's hoping it's a bad sending unit, and some other problem causing loss of power. _________________ 1986 Camaro Z-28 IROC-Z 350 swap |

Unless of course if the spring for the pressure relief valve on the oil pump gets blocked and makes the pressure go up since it won't relieve the extra pressure. just a thought.
What motor is in this?? _________________

4.7l v8. I checked with a mech. gauge, it's 85psi. Probably not good. Heh. I'm going to pull the oil pump, check that valve, if not that, engine gets dropped. I've been looking for an excuse to put a stroker crank and some oversize injectors in this Jeep for a while, maybe now's the time. _________________ 1986 Camaro Z-28 IROC-Z 350 swap |
