Holy smokes, who ordered the rain? I'm drownin out here. My boss wanted to borrow a trailer.. so when I got home I went out to try and hook it up to take it to work tomorrow. First I got my truck stuck, then I fired up the 74 which wont even move out of its parking place, even with mud tires. Then I fired up the backhoe to pull my truck out which also tried to get stuck. Theres 3" of water running down the driveway, 6" of running water where I park the 74 and the trailer, and the boards I put in front of the barn so I can get in and out without dragging are floating! I've got a regular stream running through both sides of the barn. It seems to keep on coming down harder too. I bet I get 3-5" today and tonight.

Anyway, you portland people thawed out yet?

Forgot to mention the highway between cathlamet and skamokawa was crawling with frogs too.. Tried not to hit too many of em, musta looked like a drunk coming home. Isnt that a biblical sign too? Shocked

I look out the window and all I see it water. More than just the regular Colvos Passage/Puget Sound. All the rain falling off the roof and down the gutters sounds like god is drunk and peeing on me.

I also have a pinhole leak from the firewall so my floor is wet. This sucks. I'm just glad it's not my top.

I-90 was flooded a few miles after the summit.

I drove through it before it closed.

My hands were shaking when I got to Indian John Hill rest stop.

The highway portion of the skamokawa test loop(regulars know) was under 4" of water today. Power went out here the first time little after ten.. but come right back on.. then went out again sometime around 5 this morning.. Didnt come back on till after noon. Slide just outside of skamokawa moved a bunch of trees and took out the lines. Main highway between here and cathlamet was also closed most of the day. Large mudslide came down on top of it. So after I managed to wake up without an alarm clock, get ready for work with no lights, then head out, I ended up having to drive all the way around the game refuge because that was the detour. I come home tonight to find that the neighbors in Sleepy Hollow are sandbagging. Then turn in my driveway which is now covered in silt. Seems sometime today the small creek behind the house overflowed the culvert and washed over the driveway. Left a few inches of mud over the road.

My boss said his rain gauge showed 3.5" in Cathlamet. It's normal for Skamokawa to get twice what cathlamet does. Havent talked to anyone down here with a guage though. Havent seen that much water since the 96 flood when most of the main highway went under.

The slide across hwy 4 between Cathlamet and Skamakowa made our news last night B.

Ignant anchor people don't know how to pronounce Skamakowa though - not like us enlightened mulletesque thirdgen folk.

As far as the pic of B in the water, I am picturing a Spiccoli type dude on surfboard in the irrigation ditch. Rock on!

Longview paper had a pic of the slide from the top. Dont know why a photographer would stand a few feet from the muddy edge of a land slide, to look straight down and take a pic though.

I talked to a man who lives a bit further out the valley today. Knew he had a rain gauge and keeps track. Seems he found the gauges overflowing at 5pm monday, so he emptied them then. He has 2 gauges, both are 6" gauges. He normally checks again at 10pm but forgot. By the next morning they were both overflowing again. So 6 more inches. He did say too that he'd just put a 5 gallon pail out 2 days before. Tuesday the pail was 2" from the top. Looks like more then a foot of rain here in 24hrs anyway. Longview only had 1.5", and the bosses gauge in Cathlamet had 3.5". Havent seen anybody from Grays River yet. They usually get a few more then we do even.
