I'm thinking we probably should try to move/keep the horsepower replies out of the picture post. Pic post is pretty big as it is. Maybe when shultz comes on he can move them.. Anyway, here's my #s for the 2nd gen.. sad as they are.

237hp/305tq

This is at 4k rpm since my fuel pump can't keep up with my carberator.. Discovered last night that pontiac made 2 different pumps. 1 for a 2 barrell.. which i have.. and one for a 4 barrel. I'm told the 2 barrel pump cannot keep up with a stock 4 barrel.. I've got a bit of a learning curve going on with this poncho motor.

I also have a heat problem causing detonation, Steve stopped my last 2 runs because of this. Possible transmission problems and an intermittant rear brake drag.. when I get these problems solved I expect a few more hp.. maybe with that and a real exhaust I could be pushing 280-300.. I hope!! Wink

Mine did slightly better this time than last. Might have been the weather Laughing No power mods were done to the car, but there was a rear end gear change which should have no effect.

169hp/250tq

Weather should be factored in with the correction. I like my uncorrected numbers.. 250hp! lol.

If you're running out of fuel, isn't it going to ping and get hot regardless though? Confused

My afr was fine.. til about 4500.. then it went straight up. But amazingly that first run didnt ping. The next 2 after it had warmed up pinged badly.

Ahh... somehow I was thinking you were lean throughout.

Just for S&G's I overlayed the Monterey's runs with the IROC's runs from last year. The similarity of the HP curve is shocking. The only real difference is that it just keeps going, instead of the TPI nosedive.

The problem with the Monterey is illustrated pretty clearly in the lower panel, however. Embarassed

If it looks like a boat, and smells like a Yamaha outboard it must be...... A Monterey!

Mazda made:
111 HP
108 LB/FT

Up 23 from last years 88hp for a 26% increase! AND she's a full point lean at 13.5:1. Time to research how much to jet up!

And until my 4th run which was 5th gear top speed, it put out less smoke with an Oil Injection System! LOL Than most of the SBC!

The Formula oiled down the pipes with 158HP and 252LB FT. Quite a bit better than the 129HP run last year as I corrected the lean condition. It was Pig rich this time.

Hehe... Derrick's AFR had a big ol' hole in it.

Although since you have a high-mileage TBI 305, by crew logic you should put a gianourmous shot on it and be fine for years to come. Razz

Hehe I think it's time!
The AFR's were like 10.3 all the way thru, but it had a wierd dip at about 4500rpm.

No.... You need less boost or more fuel to get you out of the dangerous 14+:1 Ratio.

Think about it: Mopar 2.2L Turbo starting in 1984:

"Chrysler used a Garrett Research T-3 turbocharger, including an integral wastegate, with a maximum boost of 7.2 psi;"

Not 14. And not your 11psi. They cranked the boost without adding fuel. Good thing your motor is tired, all the boost pressure is just passing the rings and not blowing up!

What to know about your motor:
