The cover is the solid aluminum place on the bottom of the bellhousing. It has 3 15mm headed bolts on each side, and there may be 2 brace rods attached to the bottom of it.

Took the engine and trans out of my S10 (first gen) without removing the core support, but I had to get the truck up pretty high to do it. Going back in, I got smart and pulled the support.

If you don't need the trans, don't pull it. Get the bellhousing bolts out, take the hood off,, throw a jack under the trans. Then just yank the motor up a little, out towards the front, and then straight up.

I've changed motors in these things.. and transmissions.. that cover comes off.. then you can get to the bolts. You might have to pull the exhaust Y pipe to get the torque convertor cover off though.

I'm with stupid

Just did a '95 Jimmy myself.

Pull the radiator, not the core support.

A Load Leveler will be your friend.

If you can't get that cover off, remove the starter and access the bolts from that hole.

I took a 00 2wd 4l60e out in the junk yard. IIRC I just undid the bellhousing, exhaust, cross member, d shaft, and the braces and just slid the trans back. Leaving the flex and torque on the motor.

But that was early last summer (like 15mo ago).

Being that is 4x4, I would leave the trans in, and just try and pull the motor.
