ever since I've had the car, the dome light has never worked. The courtesy lights under the dash work when you open/close the doors. I have the "roof console" which has the pivoting map light, drip/mileage thingy and flashlight.

I started messing around and I found when I took an external wire, grounded it to one of the screws, and put the other end to one end of the bulb contacts, the light comes on, both with the door open and closed.

any idea what I should do to get thing thing to work in sync w/ the pin-switches on the door?

also, there's two switches on the console, one for "map" which works, and one for "dome" which when I had the wire on there didn't make a difference pressing it one way or another, both door open and closed.

My chilton is coming up short for a wiring diagram for the thing.

Ideas?

Find a hot wire linked to the door switches run it up to the main power of the console. Run the other to ground.

Should be a third that's hot all the time for the Map/Dome switches.

Door switches are the ground. The hot wire doesn't run through the switches.

chris, your roof console should have the following wires:

white - switched ground from the pin switches. ground when the door is open. no ground when closed.

black - ground.

purple - switched ground from the "dome" and "map' switches to their respective lights.

orange - always hot.

this is how i had to hook it up on my GTA.

That's pretty much right, tony, from what I found.

I have the following wires that plug into the roof console, black, orange, purple, purp/white. Black and orange are a hot and ground, the other two are dead.

Tracing that, (purp, purp/white wires) it plugs into something down by the steering column, (plug with grey and light brown/white) which goes to the actual console. in the console I have orange, black (ground), light brown/white, and grey. there's also a brown/white that goes to my e-brake.

Orange is a constant 12v
Black is ground
The rest are dead

it seems to me I wouldn't want to splice the brown/white into the orange and grey and black, because that would be a constant 12v circuit, which means the dome light would always be on, right?
