I dont see many Kill posts here, so if it is not allowed, please delete.
I was coming home from my brother saturday evening after a failed atempt at recording an exhaust sound vid of my 87 and my wifes 90 convertible. It started sprinkling and my brother seemed to lose all interest, or better yet, the ability to press " record". So I am on my way home and sitting at a light waiting to turn left onto Cathcart way from Seattle Hill road. A really clean 1990 5.0 Mustang passes in front of me on a yellow light and tosses a couple of revs my way.
Man, this brought back lots of memories, Mustang versus Camaro from the late 80's / early 90's.
The mustang slowed down so that I could catch up to him, about a 1/2 mile. He dropped a couple of gears ( 5 speed) and I downshift to 2nd at 30 mph. We both hit it and instantly, I have two car lenghts. We slow down to under the speed limit, he drops to another gear ( damn 5.0' rev to the moon) and we do it again, same result but he lets off quicker this time.
As I slow down to let him get beside me again, he turns his blinker on and makes a u turn. I do the same since I passed my exit to my home also. The mustang pulled into a housing track adjacent to mine so I whipped in behind him. The kid was cool, after shooting the sh!t with him for about ten minutes, I realized the future of muscle cars may be in good hands after all. He had a heads, cam, headers and cat back set up and had just finished installing a new clutch. He commented about the flat paint on my car so I offered to show him how to color sand and buff paint.
He was very complimentary of IROC's and said that his dad used to have one and he liked it. He did say that my car sounded alot meaner and when I first downshifted to 2nd he thought he was in going to get pasted, and he did.
Fun times. |

That's because I drive a Jeep Cherokee with oversized tires, a Subaru Forester, and a diesel 3/4 with a manual transmission. What can I beat besides a Yugo?
Edit: I take that back. I did once beat a Honda Civic with the truck while towing my 18 foot car trailer. The guy ran as hard as he could for 2 lights. I thought it was ridiculous so on the 3rd light I decided to try and pulled him verrrrry slowly. That guy was pissed because not only did he lose but he had to eat my diesel soot at the same time. I never will know why he didn't just back off once he dropped back next to my tail pipe. Maybe his car ran better with all the extra fuel in the air. |

Nice kill. What is done to your car?
On a side note I think people who have newer fast cars like LSx think most older cars are slow with the sbc and not worth there time. Especially since most thirdgens are beat up with over 100k on the stock LG4. |

I posted one about pulling on a modded 5.3 silvy a few months back.
QT. I agree some of these new diesels are no joke. I often ride in a 3/4 ford with a modded 6.0. Its funny to see people try and pass us, or cut in front of us. They usually dont make it, and get a nice cabin full of smoke in the process. And if they do pass us, they dont get far. |

QwkTrip, the diesel and the subby both have potential. I would have loved to see the look on the Honda drivers face as not only did your truck pass by, but a friggin trailer also.
A couple of years ago I was going over Snoqualmie pass towing the travel trailer with my duramax, taking the family camping in Idaho. I was cruizing at 68 mph in the middle lane near the summit when three diesel trucks blew past, all with well over 12k trailers in tow. It was funny as hell, it looked like a coal powered frieght train going by, huge plumes of thick, black, beautiful soot every where. The Chevy Duramax had a 38' plus off shore boat in tow, the Ford had a 6 horse horse trailer loaded with future Alpo, and the Dodge had a 4 stall Alpo hauler loaded and a huge camper. They were doing about 90 mph. |

I agree, they forget the old school SBC wasnt that hard to get HP out of either.
As far as what I have done to my car? Alot. Here are a couple of the main parts -
ZZ4 short block, Trick Flow heads ( old style, crappy valve springs) Comp roller cam ( .488I 509E), Crower SS roller rockers, SLP T-Ram intake, Ed Hamburger oil pan, Random Tech cat sandwiched between SLP 1 3/4" SS headers and SLP cat back ( 2OTL), rebuilt 700 R4 with 2600 stall converter, sub frame connecters, MSD distributor, coil and 6AL box, Arizona Speed and Marine 58mm TB and alot of other minor stuff.
I have a brand new set of AFR 195cc Eliminators on the bench waiting to be installed. Just cant decide on the cam to go with them. |
