Mom's Dodge has steel wheels with hub caps which didn't look bad. Previous owner(s) had scuffed a curb or two and base plastic color (yellow) was showing through. Also, where the slots in the covers exposed the steel of the wheels, there was rust beginning to form.

A little POR-15 on the wheels took care of the little bit of rust. Then on to the hub caps - I cleaned them up, then sprayed them with an adhesion promoter primer for plastic (the stuff is clear and hard to see if you get coverage Laughing ), then covered the imitation lug nuts and sprayed the rest of the cover with trim black paint.

Before...

After...

A little to get used to, but I like the look. Might need to get real wheels before long to show off the four wheel disc brakes on the car Cool

Looks cool Al...I like that better than the stock press on look for sure...
What does your mom think?
If it were anything but a dodge, you would need to get her a sideways hanging flat bill hat...and some ricer bling Laughing

Mom seems to like it. Now I have a gauge to see if she gets too close to the curb Twisted Evil

Not bad! Those stock wheels look better than the stock wheels. Did that make sense? Laughing

LMAO at the curb!

I have to go against the grain here but I think they kinda look like wheels missing the hubcab now. Not enough definition in the wheel to pull off the black. Maybe try some black lugs?

LOL! You're going to critique a spray paint job on stock plastic hub caps? I think you missed your calling as a fast food restaurant critic. Laughing

It does lack something, but looks a bit better than the photo which was originally quite a bit darker. I used the inner part of some spray paint caps (the part that covers the nozzle) to cover the "lug nuts." I thought about leaving a ring around the outside, but too much masking involved and I wanted to cover the curb rash. I can always go back and paint them silver again Cool

Is that the new description for professional car thief? Wink "Hey, Officer! I was just reallocating resources to where they would be better applied."

I like to look at it from a positive perspective.... I saved a 3rd gen from being ruined by a redneck or becoming a ghetto cruiser. You should be proud of me! Very Happy

Well, she did it today. Said she got caught in a rut and when she came out, it threw her into the curb. Scuffed up two of them and had to get a new tire. Pro-rated Les Schwab warranty for $13. Not bad since the tires have been on the car since she bought it.

She likes the right edge of the lane anyhow. The way she says it, she assumed it was a rut but could have been anything given where she was. She was in the commercial area of Silverdale by Costco, Best Buy, the former Circuit City, Office Depot...
