Failed Emissions Today Sad and went to a couple of shops and they said I simply did not run the car long enough on the Freeway...so I guess I will try again sometime this week.

That freaking sucks man. How long did you have it running for? Good luck next time.

I was impatient today and was short on time....so it had been running for only a half hour when i had it tested. it was idling at 1060 and the max is 1100, so as a result, the hydrocarbons were high.

How badly did you fail? Try ethonal in your tank (about 10%). It will often do the trick if you are "just over". Also, don't let your car idle for long periods of time. The ECM will go into "open loop" if you idle for pro-longed periods of time.

Half hour drive is more than fine. Just don't turn the car OFF because the Cat is the first thing to get cold. Cold cat = mucho emission.

Tune up, GOOD gas (Not arco, 7-11), get the car HOT, and take her through.

Never had luck with addatives, or alchy.

Though a GOOD friend at work's husband says his s10 fails misserably, so he adds the std bottle size of rubbing alchy and it passes!

I have also had some success in tweaking the eprom to make an engine pass emissions. You need to know exactly where you failed and what the other readings are, as when you tweak on area (example you lean out the engine to produce less HC), you usually affect another area (increase NOx).

Most of the times I've done this, it was for a car that really shouldn't have passed anyway because it was modified and had a high HC level but all the other readings were good.

Also, Twilight is right, you should ALWAYS do this with after you did a tune up (cap, rotor, wires, plugs, new filters, new oil).
