I am looking for a set of SLP 1 3/4" Stainless Steel emmissions legal headers for a 1990 IROC convertible. Prefer new but used would be OK as long as the head mating flange isn't warped.

The 3 sets of SLP headers I've seen are always warped. The flange fits the head fine, but since each header has 3 independent flanges they always need a seperator or some muscle to bend the open enough to get the bolts started.

WAY not worth it. 1 5/8" header works fine for any power level up to 400+RWHP.

Yea, 1 5/8" would work fine, just want to future proof. Even a warped flange isnt that big of a deal, just need to know before purchasing them.

I tend to hold onto cars longer than most, and they tend to get faster the longer I own them. The headers are going on the 1990 vert, along with a Borla cat back and Random Tech CAT. It hasnt been driven much since I bought it becuase the cat is toast and it wont pass emmisions. The car has about 100 miles on it in the last 3 years. The 400 SBC with 305 heads is the culprit for wrecking the cat. The Trick Flow heads are coming off my 87 and going onto the vert.

Need the exhaust to let the 400 breath.

Mike took off his SLP's and put on the 1 5/8s hedmans. We've all seen the hp that motor puts down. 1 3/4s are even a preferred size for 454s.. Also I think the slp's have a small collector.

Might wanna talk to dyno don over on the thirdgen.org in the exhaust section he makes ss 1.75 inch headers with y pipe.

That's right. The SLP ones had 2 1/4" collector IIRC. No Beuno.

i have SLP headers and mine has a 3" collector. Mine aren't stainless though.

Confused

I forget what the primary size of the tube was.

SLP aren't stainless, they're coated.


You do not have a 3" collector.

SLP are stainless (409 IIRC). Mine (Tony's now) did not come coated. I had them sent to Jet Hot.

All SLP exhaust components are SS. If they arent coated they look like a$$ after some heat cycles, but when you put them in a sand blast booth they cleanup. That is why SS comes at a premium. Mild steel exhaust will rust out after 5 or 6 years. I am noticing that most cheap exhaust manufactures have bailed on the third gens, what happens when they all bail? Put your money into to a high quality SS system....it will be cheaper in the long run.

The way I see it, the cars I have will be modded, and the economy will dictate the level of mods. I doont plan to sell them, look forward to the day when they are sought after like the 69 camaro. SLP doesnt make headers any longer and I dont wont to purchase something that will rust out in 5 years. Buy it once. That is my moto. Except for the TF heads I cheaped out on, and not buying the Dana 44 rearends when SLP was dumping them.... So, back on topic, anyone know any one with a set of 1 3/4" SLP SS headers with AIR tubes?

Hmm.... My mild steel Hedman headers are almost 10 years old......

I didn't realize the SLP headers were stainless. The few I've seen were coated or looked coated. Chris' for example didn't show the natural stainless coloring from being run, so I incorrectly assumed they were coated, just faded. The pretty purples/blues/red/straw colors.

Didn't know you had yours Coated Mike. I looked into them a long time ago and just saw coated ones. I did distinctly remember the site showing a 2 1/4" coloector which turned me off of them.

Maybe there was a production difference between Mike/Tony's and Bobby/Chris'.

I'll have to see to be sure when we get back under your car Chris. I could be wrong, it's been known to happen!

I agree DLP though, Stainless is the way to go if you can afford it, or build it. Does get very expensive though! Shocked

Intitial cost is high, but you wont have to go backwards. My 1987 has had the same SLP SS headers and cat back on it since 1995. 14 years of service. The muffler blew out in the late 1990's becuase of a self inflicted back fire and SLP replased it free of charge. Other than that I have had no problems with the whole exhaust system. Last weekend I had to replace the passenger side header gaskets and for S/Gls tossed the header into a sandblast booth and was shocked to see the semi gloss shine come back.

I like SLP's products, and have no reason to question them. They were the first company to offer high performance emmisions legal parts for TPI cars and built there products to GM's standards.

My catback is stainless, and the headers are ceramic coated. It wasn't cheap but it should last for years. If I was doing it again I would go with stainless headers since my coating is showing signs of rusting.

Bump. The Borla cat back and part of the SLP Y pipe are sitting on the bench in the garage, just need the headers.
O'ya, also need the drivers side pipe that connects the header to the bottom part of the Y pipe.

Yea, I would like to have the AIR tubes. With the way this state is going, they will probably start visually inspecting every vehicle that goes in for a smog check, regardless of year.

What I really need though is the pipe that connects at the drivers side header and snakes down and around the front of the oil pan then connects to the Y pipe.
