Went to pull the trans pan and install the new trick flow pan I have and of course I find quite a bit of crap in the bottom of the old pan and on top of the filter! CRAP! lol well the trans has been shifting good and hasn't given any indication that it is failing so I will clean it up and flush it out with a new filter and what not and see what happens.

Guess those 4k Launches off the transbrake have been harder then I thought! Smile

What do you have in it? th350/400? They take alot of abuse. If you werent running so fast i'd say leave it! lol I've had a few transmissions with a pile of material in the pan, that just kept going and going.

If its an old school 3spd like I think, at least it won't cost much to rebuild. Probably do yourself even cheaper.

TH350 with pro tree brake and 4k stall.
I think I am going to just tear it apart and upgrade it on the bench here. Shouldn't be to bad I wouldn't think. Ive done a few 700's so it can't be any worse then those! haha

I'm interested in some pictures. I'm running a TH400 behind my 454. Everything is fine but I might be interested in a manual valve body. Although it might have one in there already, it will drag the wheels no problem when I'm decelerating and downshift.

Manual valvebody will mean you have to shift it like a stick. If you have it in first, thats the only gear it will be in. If in D it will stay in 3d at any speed.

Various shift kits do other things, like allowing you to shift into any gear at any speed, but a shift kit will still allow automatic shifting in drive.

Would it try to start rolling in 3rd? Mine won't kick down and it shifts from 1st to 3rd by 15mph. It's quite rediculous. Might have to do with the gears I have.

Well here is some pics for ya guys to check out. After doing a complete teardown I have figured out several issues that have come up with this trans.

The building area (the mess of guts lol)

The case stripped down

When you imagine at how fast some of the parts are spinning in this small area it is pretty cool whoever thought of it all!

The low reverse apply piston (sits at the bottom of the transmission)

The rear planetary/ ring gear/ output shaft

Low/Reverse clutches (some are burned kinda hard to see in the photo)

The low overrun clutch support assembly

The front Ring gear, front planetary, and front sun gear/ Drive shell Assembly (In the pics I tried to capture the damage but the camera doesn't do to well..... The front Planetary is damaged at the teeth and the drive shell has taken a good hit on the edges!)

Here is the most commonly failed part in the TH-350 This is the Sprag and race. As you can see mine is in good shape but this one happens to be the Beefy Iron housing with 36 Sprag element and hardened race. In a transbrake application you should never even attempt to run one without this upgraded piece.

This little piece sits in the bottom of the transmission and it took me a while to figure out exactly what this does because most TH-350's have whats called a anti clunk spring and this is what takes the place of that.... Come to find out they use this on higher milages transmissions. (not what I was after!) But either way it will work perfectly fine.

The input shaft I found has been damaged as well. Talking with several other racers and I was told that in applications where extreme amount of power are available I should install the hardened input shaft.... Oh great! LOL

And to think the only reason I am into this thing like this is cause I was getting all fancy and wanted to install this and a SFI Blanket!

Fancy! That doesn't look so bad. Minimal bench space? I'll really consider taking mine apart when I break it. What are the significant differences between the 350 and 400?
