i have a 87 iroc 350 tpi
im takeing the 700r4 out of it and putting a t-5 in.
all parts are coming off a 87 firebird 305 carb
what im needing to know is their are 2 different part numbers for flywheels. one for carb and one for fuel injection.
but diameter and teeth number is identical.
will the carb flywheel off the bird fit on my fuel ijection car?
the crank part #'s are both the same for carb and fuel injection, so the crank is the same.
and the clutch kit is the same part number for fuel injection and carb.
even the rear main seal is both same part number and 1 peice.
what gives?
is their something im missing here.
Thanks _________________ 87 Camaro Z28 - Iroc-Z |

As long as both cars are a one peice rear main and the engines haven't been swapped out, everything is the same. just swap them over. But don't forget your auto car doesn't have a pilot bushing in it. One is included with a new clutch kit, but if your reusing the old cluth you need to go get a pilot busing and install it in the back of the crank. Failure to do this will cause a catastrophic of your failure of trans in very short order. _________________ Member of the "Elite T56 Club" , big brake club, and "burgundy" (not red or maroon) car owner.

often casting numbers are different native to years. And gave no change in function.
Your auto doesn't have a flywheel cwhere are you gettings these numbers? _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

if you look up parts for a 87 camaro with a 5.0 and look up flywheel it give ya 2 options one for carb and one for the tpi motor.
but looking at their pictures the rear main seal maiting surface is the same.
its just the "bowl" design thats slighty different. but they both look to dish in the same amount.
just basicly makeing sure that using the carb flywheel when their is an option for FI flywheel will work out the same and im not seeing why not at this point.
the difference is either weight or strength it appears.
but it looks like i might have been the first person to run into this on tgo or casecade crew.
new information for the fourms is allways helpful to others.
haha i was the one who gets to find out tho _________________ 87 Camaro Z28 - Iroc-Z |

| There are multiple flywheels. The LG4/LO3 cars got a heavier flywheel. The performance cars, got a flywheel that was back-cut. If you order a flywheel through GMPP the only one you can get is the back-cut version. Does GM even still stock the heavier LG4/L03 style or are you just seeing the part number? |

| Schmucks shows two part numbers. Look at their online pics though, and you can clearly see that one of them is hollowed. |
