Seriously.... have you seen an engine swap idea worse than this?

it seems he hasn't really crunched the numbers much has he.

OK so lets say this swap will give him 30 MPG. (it won't but its a number)
My little 305 bone a$$ stock is giving me 26 highway.
he would get 4 miles per gallon more.
4 miles times 15 gallon tank is 60 miles farther per tank.
60 miles at 30 MPG is two gallons
2 gallons at 2.5 per gallon is 5.00.
If he fills up once per week as I do then its 5.00 per week or 20 per month savings.
If and I mean big ole if he can do it from paper to on the road for 2500 bucks then that 2500 divided by the 5.00 per week savings is 500 weeks.
500 weeks divided by 52 weeks per year over 9 and a half years.

TO BREAK EVEN

To make it worth while well that would happen never ever ever....

Dude should take 2500 and get one of these.

Saving money on gas has cost a lot of people thousands of dollars lol

I was thinking more about choosing one of the heaviest and most gutless diesel engines of all time and not having a prayer of installing a 1-ton drivetrain in his car. Wink

well there is that too.
Sounds like he been "thinking" too much. Duh

When I bought my car I had a Suburban with a good strong running 454 in it. I had the idea of putting that in the Camaro. but after some reading and research I scrapped that idea and sold it off. And that would have been a relatively simply swap.

If he's thinking diesel swap for gas mileage, he's missing the point. Very Happy

he said it was for fuel economy.
If its performance then there are still better ways of doing it. But if he's after the biggest most pointless swap out there well then have a good time with that. but for economy to save 5.00 a week at the outside well keep trying...

How much more mileage is he looking at. Diesel costs more per gallon than even premium, so he should be looking at alot more miles out of a tank than the 320-350 highway miles I can get with the V6.

even if he got 50 mpg out of that diesel, it would take more than two and a half years to break even. That assumes 2,500 dollars total cost for the swap. thats motor, tranny, springs, new prom if needed wiring, fabrication just to get the thing to physically fit, everything. I think this type of swap on a 2500 budget is very optimistic. It assumes 2.50 per gallon for both gas and diesel, diesel does cost more so it would probably take around 3 years to break even. Thats at 50 mpg, which he wouldn't get.
So if the real underlying point is bragging rights then he should go for it, if its performance then there are better ways, if its economy, then its just dumb.
