Hey yall, it is officially that time! I've been planning on this for over a year now and it is finally happening!
I've officially made my summit order as a christmas present to myself! Headman headers, and a custom dual mandrel bent 2.5" set up is on its way from Nevada as we speak! pics and updates as we go.
for now i haven't picked out mufflers yet and am open to suggestions. Has anyone ever run dual 24in" cherry bombs? how loud would that be? I want something that is nice and rumbly and will turn heads but at the same time i can talk to my passenger.

I heard chambered pipe is real loud idk if you would be able to talk to the passenger or not , but if you still want a nice tone and loudness i would go with flowmaster 40's my friends iroc has a flowmaster it sounds pretty sweet |

Sweeeet! No more whooshing noise when you drive by.
I'm not a big fan of flows. I like magnaflow and/or dynomax. Slight burble at idle but pretty throaty at WOT. |

You don't need no stinkin mufflers! Just dump it out the back! I'd lean more towards flowmaster than magnaflow if I had to pick one. I wasn't very happy with my magnaflow on the V6. Could have been because of the V6 though.
So dual 2.5? How are you planning on running the mufflers in the back? _________________ E30

One more vote for Aerochamber.
If you're really trying to save money, you can run the summit brand glasspacks. I didn't think mine sounded all that horrible, but opinions may vary.
having it exit past the rear bumper will make some difference in how loud it is inside the car. _________________

Mufflers should go out the back like I built mine and Schultzy's. My 2.8 sounded good with the magnaflow. Of course it was a single 3" muffler that split into dual 2". _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

They do fit nice. But twice the price! I don't think they sound any better than a magnaflow. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I really like the idea of aerochambers but those guys are pricey for 2 and Paul's car is LOUD!. Borla...yeah i'm a college student trying to pay for school and 3rd gen, unless you got a set sitting around collecting dust they are gonna get a no.
Ian, I'm excited for the wooshing noise and rattles and other exhaust related problems to go away!
Paul, how loud is it inside your car? would it quiet things down more if you placed the mufflers before the axle somehow? what about the idea of running glass packs when it runs along the driveshaft. just thinking out loud here.
And Schultz, what kind of resonators did you use?
Thanks Guys!

Jake, my car is loud because I'm running dual 3" exhaust and have the mufflers in the back for a semi-radical engine. Engines with less power will be quieter inherintly.
I used resonators for Schultz' car from my local exhaust supplier. No real brand. They aren't a glass pack either as the heat that close can cause those to die too. Putting the mufflers infront of the axle would quiet it down some, but not a substantial amount. You'll be quiet enough with your motor and running 2.5" pipe.
If you don't exit the exhaust behind the bumper it will be real loud inside the car with a drone/resonance.
Aerochambers are about $70 a piece. That's about as cheap as you get for a straight through design. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

You don't want the chambered round mufflers like the bullets you rode in mine Jake and you remember how loud that was LOL I love the sound but would not want to drive it sounding like that on a daily basis _________________

We recently did a dual 2.5 inch set up on my dads 87 Chevrolet Pickup. The mufflers are Summit Racing Chambered (aka cheap)
It was more of a fun thing to try, just to see if they would sound decent.
For 25.00 a pop, we aren't disappointed:
Here is short clip, the truck is super cold after 2 days in the snow, so the sound is a little hollower. This is a stock, 140,000 Mile 350 TBI, with stock manifolds and no h pipe.

I had my little glasspacks right next to each other where the cat would have gone. I think the max you can fit in there is like 21" length and about 15" width, but you'll have to find something to weld hangar to. Paul was super-creative and welded a couple nuts with a bolt against a boxed area on the subframe. We also put a little piece of Flat Bar between the mufflers to stablilize them. You'll probalbly have to do the same periodically between both the pipes if you route them together.
Be sure to use flanges (either 3 bolt, or ball) just after it goes past the axle. Makes dissasembly easier, might want to do that right after it turns to go down the driveline too. Also be sure to think about where your SFC's might go and leave ample room to work, so you don't have to modify your exhaust later.
Just hope you can get this all done before dyno! _________________

I have a flowmaster on mine, its what it came with. I dont think its that loud, but others disagree. I think the tone just carrys.
I had a dynomax on the v6. Sounded decent. At idle, alot of people thought it was a 305. But once you got on it, no doubt it was a 6.
I wish I had a vid camera _________________ 2008 GMC Z71
