I think a little early for VATS, that started in 89 I believe. Also, if it was VATS, the starter wouldn't even click, nor would the fuel pump prime.

i wasnt shure bout the years on the vats i know all about it on my 89 white one has it all boogered (part of the reason i gutted it) ,
