Just make sure... that when you start tuning.... you're not tuning around a mechanical issue. |

No mechanical Issues I am aware of.
My throttle body has been recently rebuilt with new injectors & gaskets, tune up stuff is new, fuel pump is doing its job, but my smog pump was whinning so I took it out... EGR got stuck open so I bypassed it...
Far as I have been reading those are things that I can compensate for in the chip right? _________________

Air pump isn't in the chip at all. EGR, you can just leave the solenoid plugged in and the CPU wont know the difference. But yes you can disable EGR in the chip. |

Thats how I have the EGR, just the vacuum line plugged, solenoid plugged in. It doesn't even throw a code until I get on the highway.
But the car doesn't really run good when cold. Is there anything I can do to help it? _________________

You want to make sure the valve itself isn't stuck open.
Not sure what to do about the coldness. Probably need to get a scanner on it and check the O2 and coolant readings to make sure the sensors are operating properly. |

I can do that, I have access to an Auto Xray with a datastream at work, but what am I looking for from the sensors exactly?
I can open the valve with my finger BTW. _________________

You need to either blow on it, or use a vacuum gauge to verify that it stays closed and isn't bleeding off.
With the scanner make sure the coolant temp is ACTUALLY what the coolant temp is. Just check cold against ambiant air.
O2 you'll want to watch for cross counts to be steadily increasing. That's the o2 reading above below about .550 MV (14.7:1 AFR) Then look at the fuel trims. 128 is perfect fueling. If it's higher that indicates the O2 is reading too much oxygen (lean). If the number is lower, the O2 is reading too little oxygen indicating a rich mixture.
If it seems way off might need an O2... especially if it's not doing much or reading slow. O2 is a tune up part. |

Ok I went and scanned it.
My 02 was going all over the place at idle. Up to .7xx Mv and back down to .015ish.
Temp seemed correct to the gauge, the quarter mark being about 185* and the intake air was about 80* _________________

That is normal when it is closed loop, the o2 values will swing back and forth. That is what it is supposed to do. |

Moates.com
Adapter (for the chip)
Burn2 (For burning)
Now moates sells just the SF512 chips and I still cannot get them to work.
The Atmel 256 chips work great but I'm having trouble finding more. I loaned my last 2 to AL. |

If you are going to be spening money for all that stuff... You might also consider just spending the money for RBob's EBL system.

Better data-logging ability, Larger, and easier to use Fuel/Spark tables. No chips, just plug in your computer and make changes instead of having to burn chips.

That makes it pretty simple so it just plugs into my ECM without modification? Then I use like Tunerpro etc. to decode it?
*Edit. I read more, I have to install it into my existing ECM...
Do you have one of these Dew? |

The Ostrich is another great product. It's what I'm using now. I've got step by step directions (w/pics) to install it in your ECM that I made when I installed mine. Designed to work with TunerPro, the Ostrich eliminates the chip and gives you real time emulation while you drive. I'm lovin it! If you want to check out the install instructions, shoot me a PM with your e-mail. It's EZ!
