Hey crewbies!
Thought I would check in and give the lastest in a long list of fun. Car was smoking blue under hard decel. This got to a point that it was smoking at idle. Paul and I did a leak down test. Most cylinders had 6-8% leakage. Cylinder number 4 had 32%!!!!!!
Looks like the exhaust valve guide is worn/damaged somehow. Anyway we pulled the heads and intake last night and they will be at the machine shop today. Having all of the guides/valves inspected and making sure that the intake is true.
With any luck (good luck hehe) she will be back in action this weekend.
Thought I would post because I was relating to Dan's desire to possibly shoot the damn thing! She sure is fun to drive when she runs right
On the upside I continue to learn. Mainly what I have learned is that it's always something!
Cheers!
-Schultzy

Getter done Eugene!
There is always something. But that's half the fun. You just need a daily driver is all. I think I'm past the getting aggrivated at the things that keep happening. Just fix it and go asap |

Something tells me you wouldn't stand around and wait to be designated before you start drinking. _________________

Well Mike I can still try to find some of those armor peircing rounds for my M1 Carbine. I've got a jungle clip we made up when I was still in the service. That will give you 60 rounds to put into her
Well all kidding aside, we are all learning from this. Next time someone has a jumping tach I'll tell then to check the ground on the left rear cyl. head before anything else. And not just to see if it's tight, take it off and use a lighted magnifier on it to check for corrision. That was my mistake not doing exactly that the first time I checked all the grounds. I wanted a quick fix, and ended up throwing $$$ in parts at it when it was a $.50 fix. You would think after owning and modifying this car for the last 14 years I'd realize that NOTHING on these cars is simple. Live and learn I guess. What doesn't kill us (or the car) makes us better 3rd gen mechanics |

hehe thanks crewbies... searching for a daily driver now!
I'll let you know when we are putting it back together John. I have a half rack of Fat Tire in the garage fridge
On another positive note I bought an air compressor and bigger tool box - both have been coming in VERY handy. I think that I actually used to spend as much time digging for tools as I did using them!
Later gators!

Hmmm, I seem to remember a nice looking black trans am for sale that would make a nice daily driver. Not to mention lots of spare parts too |

Just got the Home Depot Husky special - 5.5 HP, 150 max psi, 33 gal tank. It was the same price as the Craftsman 6 HP unit but also included a set of air tools so that put this one in the running. It should be good for just about everything that I do. Lately that has been to hold up valves!

Good choice on the compressor Mike. Husky's are a rebadged Cambell Hausfeld. |

Good luck getting her fixxed.
You guys make me realize how lucky I am with my first engine. All I have had to do is move one guide plate over a little because the pushrod was squeaking.
Or I am just that damn good. |

I don't know yet. Got the Speed Demon carb on and it picked up some, but am still waiting for ACS to ship the damn headers. Should be here any day now. All the rest of the exhaust is sitting in the shop just waiting. |

Sounds like you guys are doing some real work to your cars!
Mikey, what's new on that Sled since I've been here last? Sounds like Ramrod still has the same setup since the Portland drag oh so long ago but with a Demon carb? Anything else?
I'm betting too many of you have done some good stuff to their cars to even read, but if you want to list them people, I'm interested.
My IROC is still the same. The only thing I've done is FINALLY getting those SFC's in....what a friggin' AWESOME upgrade! I have those rear disc and a Wilwood proportioning valve just waiting for time to go in. Maybe I'll call my buddy Lucas this weekend to help me (and use his shop...). _________________
