Dear Llama,

Recently, my girlfriend of over a year broke up with me. Honestly, it kind of blindsided me. Initially, it was a drama-laden event, especially as only a matter of days later, she was running into another guy's arms unabashedly. We both said and did some bad things to the other, but we've made our apologies and for the most part made amends. She says she wants us to be "just friends".

Do you think its worth the trouble, or is the "kiss goodbye", truely the kiss goodbye?

Signed,

Dubiously friendly

Dear Dubious,

Ahh yes, the friends line. If I had a dollar for every time that had been muttered, I would indead have my Lambo, and a Ferrari, and would not have to worry about future companionship, as I would have the love of two beautiful Italians.

Sadly, this is not the case. So, since you will also likely not get paid either, what you probably should do is just cut your losses. Women will say all sorts of crazy talk, about friends, and forgiveness and such. What it boils down to is this. The ones who do this, can't stand being alone, period. They are giving you this friends BS, to try to keep you in the back pocket, in case this new Beau doesn't work out, or turns out to be a real wanker with no money. Chances are she really only broke up with you, because someone else either did a better job at treating her like crap, or had more money. Either way, you can't win. If you play her game, she will let you mess around a bit, keep you around just in case, but at the end of the day, will tell you she is knocked up, and by that she has no idea who the father, all she knows is it isn't you.

All I'm saying, is chances are doing the friends thing won't work, so either dive in, and go for it, or cut your loses and get the heck out of dodge.

All the best,
The Lama.
