While I was doing some more brake work (mainly bleeding), I had the rear of the car on jack stands checking things out. I decided to see what it looked like in motion, so I started the car and put it in 1st gear and let the rear spin. I saw that the right rear has a noticeable wobble and the caliper makes a slight squeak as it moves back and forth on its bolts.
Fortunately, I haven't driven alot on this rear end, and I apparently need at least one axle shaft for disc brakes. This came from a 1982 bird so I assume it's a 26 spline axle. _________________ 92 Camaro

I'd prefer new, but a good used one would be OK. Looks to be the flange is bent where the wheel mounts to it. Haven't decided on it yet, but I found a good (?) used one on e-Bay for $60 plus shipping, total about $95.
Later plans are to pull both and change backing plates for at least PBR brakes. Might change to 28 spline pieces and change the carrier in the rear to match. |

YIKES AL NO NOT $95~
Go get one from a junk yard. Any 26 spline thirdgen axle. If it's a drum axle I can turn it in the lathe for you for a beer. You'll be into it only a few bones.
You can get new Moser axles for $315!
If your not going with a stocker axle I'd vote A: Go with the 9 bolt, OR B: Buy Moser Axles and a Posi unit upgrading to 28 spline. |

| I have a couple Al. I can check shipping from here for you, but it might be cheaper in a yard up there. |

my brother makes a trip from kfalls to Portland every week, i could get one of rods axles as far as Portland for free. and on friday the 20th i was planning a run into Washington, at least as far north as my moms for dinner (castle rock), but i was also meaning to talk to Ian, as i owe him cash, and he owes me parts. i could always leave it with him, and then you could come get it whenever.
in fact i am PMing Ian right now. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

That may work, Ian and I still have business to take care of, i.e. brakes and money.
Hey Rodney, those are the 26 spline axles, right? Since mine are 1982, that's what they should be IIRC. |

Yeah they're 26 spline. I even have 2 sets of disc axles so you don't have to machine anything off of them.
Tony, let me know when your brother is leaving Kfalls so I can get the axle to him. |

Before I pull this one out, a video of the wheel wobble. Surprised I didn't feel that. Maybe the cause of the alignment I had done feels all out of whack.
