It seems like he is chasing his tail here, and I dont know much about fuel injection. He says his timing is off, but the mechanic he is working with has him chasing the EGR valve "Thingy"
Any one want to shoot us some advise/lend me a stick to beat the car with? |

| Timing is an easy check, just make sure you pull the advance wire before you set it. As for the EGR, can you move the valve at all (try when it's cold). |

| Timing never changes unless you move it, or the timing chain wears out. Unless he's played with the timing its something else. |

First, what are his problems?
Between Travis, Tony, myself, I bet we can figure it out.
The EGR on a 3.1 is digital, and yes is a known problem.
Timing chain is another known problem on above 80k mile 6/60's.
FTR, a 3.1 is "MPFI" not "TPI" |

I've had my share of gremlins with mine too. EGR, leaking injectors, various senders, broken connectors, etc. That EGR is a pricey one, but you don't have to worry about vacuum to it. If the motor is like ours, it's not TPI, but MFI. _________________ 92 Camaro

since your car is carb, you probably don't know what an "advance wire" or "est" is. here you go.
you may need to log inot TGO to view this it is hosted as an attachment on their board. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

hmm? What? I guess I'll subscribe to the thread and offer my support.
For starters, you'll have to describe the problem. Do you have access to a data stream reader of some sort? What are the trouble codes? Since its a Speed Density system (assuming it is indeed a 3.1) any amount of vacuum leaks can cause more problems than on a 89 and older car. _________________ E30

Well, after talking to him more, he says he can get it to start if he squirts gasoline into the TB. Now it sounds like fuel injectors are not squirting at the right time??
I have never seen the car, and he is a retard, but he wants to buy some parts I have in the back yard, and I am poor enough right now, I'm selling everything till pay day. If I can fix his car, he will buy some more parts.
He says that the last mechanic told him that the injectors were firing, but that his timing was off. Spark and valves MUST be working in the right time though if he can get it to start with fuel in the TB.... |

Very leaky injectors? Maybe fuel pressure?
If you get your hands on the car. Timing should be at 10deg with the est wire undone. |
