Hi Everyone,
I thought I would introduce myself before I started posting. My name is Jim. I found out about this site from Al Hasse whom I just met at a local Auto parts store I frequent quite often. I am a member at Thirdgen.org and a few others.
My 1988 GTA is my first 3th Gen F body. My first F body was in 1979 when I bought my first 1978 Z28 4 speed car. I just bought another one to restore, then found this GTA sitting in a friends front yard without an engine or tranny. All the parts were in boxes but the block was cracked. I had driven one of these GTA 5 speed cars about 10 years ago and loved it. Now I have just installed a takeout LB9 from a 1989 IROC with 90K on it. I am almost ready to fire it off. Some of the removable parts of the body need some attention, ie fenders, door, as well as the paint which appears to be ridding itself of that nasty clear coat that gives it that awful shine.
It's a work in progress that I hope to be driving soon and fixing as I go.
Hope I can learn from here as well as contribute.
Thanks,
Jim _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

Welcome Jim. Sounds like a nice little project you have going there! It is always nice to see new faces around, and the interest in our cars growing in our area's.
Welcome

Welcome! If you need any help with anything 3rdgen related I'm just a couple minutes away in Gig Harbor and more than willing to lend a hand. Although my schedule sucks.

Welcome aboard, Jim! Glad you joined.
No need to finish that project so soon. I need more companions in the 'my project car doesn't run' club. |

Thanks for the warm welcome. One of the reasons I need to make the GTA a runner is because of my other projects. My shop isn't that big and I have the old 327 starboard engine from my Chris Craft on the floor as well as the new one on one of my engine stands. A 350 and Borg Warner super T10 for the 78 Z and all the assorted parts that go with all those projects also populate the shop and it is only 14' X 16'. It's a nice shop that is fully insulated, wired, heated, plumbed for air and has a full roll-up garage door, it's just small. I can't get the boat engine out of the shop with a car in the way. As soon as I can get the GTA to move under it's own power, I can do the finish work on the boat engine and get it out of the shop and into the boat where it belongs.
I have a fully enclosed carport with a concrete floor attached to the shop but it does not lend itself well to moving vehicles in and out of it unless they can move under their own power because of the aproach angle.
I also just really want to drive it... _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

My schedule kinda sucks too. I work swingshift. As for pic's I have one listed in my profile. It's not real pretty right now but it seems to look good with the car cover on it. It's Fire red with t-tops and the original GTA 16" wheels. I'll see if I can find something to post when I get home from work later. Yeah I'm at work right now but I'm on a break. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |

Welcome Jim. What's a GTA wheel?
Its a rim that was first seen on the 86 Trans Am, somehow it became a GTA exclusive, and Im ok with that
enjoy your stay _________________

From what I've seen in the photos, your car sets the bar pretty high for GTA's. It looks amazing. I'm sure you have lots of reciepts to show how too.

I live off of Old Military by Fairgrounds road. Not far at all. I might have to swing by and check on your progress sometime. I'd probably need your address though. _________________ 88 GTA LB9 5 speed 3.45 posi |
