|
|
So I managed to install my headers yesterday. Man that was a PITA, but not the worst.
Went to re-install my plugs and WTF? How do you access them?
Out of the 8:
2 I can get standard socket/ratchet on
4 I have to use spark plug socket, wrench.
2 I cant even get a socket on, cant get wrench on either as that part is recessed in the head. WTF?
Anyone make some tools to do this?
Also, the modeled heater only box I have, hits the headers. I have to redo this box to clear the headers. This will be the 3rd box I have made. |

On both Mine and Pauls, to get the #8 plug, we had to cut the end off a socket, you need to leave enough to get it to bite, so cut a little at a time until it fits. Or you can buy a telescoping socket.

I have the Edlebrock TES headers. To access no 6 and no 8, I jack the car up and get them fron down under |

I have a gear drive socket set where the ratchet head has a pass-through hole. The socket and the wrench fit over the plug with no clearance issues, works great. _________________ 92 Camaro

Mine are Edlebrocks.
Ones I remember having probs with it left front... other is on the left as well.
John, thats what I was thinking as well. Either doing a "slit" in the side, or cutting the whole end off. Will go get a cheapo sp socket if I do that (not cutting up my craftsman one!!!)
Al, can you post a pic of your tool, where you got it, how much, etc.
Travis, I'll try and snap some pics tonight if I'm not welding on a trailer. Working on making the heaterbox fit. |

| The cheaper solution is to take a air cut off tool and cut a corner off of the spark plug socket. So instead of having 6 points on the hex on the inside for the spark plug you only have 5 |

I can get to all of mine on the driver side, passenger is very similar but the plug angles send #1 into the runner. |

| I wouldn't say "better", just different. Do you have a 3 bolt flange on your collector? I'll sell you these so I can get some LT1 headers. My heads are D-port and those are round port headers. I also have an exhaust leak so they should come off anyway. Both headers have o2 bungs in them. |

2 Bolt ball flange. I have no y-pipe at the moment, but I will saturday They have already ordered parts to make my pipe.
Wish I had the 3 bolt flange style |

Just cut the ball flange off, and weld on a 3 bolt flange.

| It may, but you also lose like 1/2" of diam. so it can restrict flow just a hair. And if you build exaust stuff like Paul did, it make it easy to fabricate if everything is all 3 bolt flanges. |

The only reason I hate ball flange is trying to find parts for it. The y-pipe requires the ball on this setup... which I didnt get with the headers.
Also, ball flange allows movement for when the motor rocks. |

Ball shouldn't allow movement if everything is tight.
3 bolt flanges all the way. Just don't get cheap ones. Get thick 3/8"+ ones. |
