well, i figured it out. the turn/hazard switch has failed. what could this have to do with brake lights you ask? well, unlike most fbodys where the blue wire goes form the brake light switch to the brake lights, in a T/A or GTA that uses the same bulbs for turn signals as well as brakes the brake light signal goes halfway back the car, gets just past the rear seat, TURNS AROUND and goes back to the front of the car, to the turn/hazzard switch and lights the brake lights from there. i can't imagine that this means the turn/hazard switch in the column, but i don't see what other swith the diagram could mean.
so at this point i have 1/4th of my interior out, and still no brake lights. looks like i will have to pull the column to replace my turn/hazard switch. which i do not have time to do today, nor do i have the switch..
looks like i am driving the six to kfalls again. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

And here's how Tony drove from his place to Paul's place with no brake lights. This was during the Labor Day get out of town traffic on Friday. He did get it fixed before the long haul.
