today started like any other. i was at work, my shift was from 3Pm to close (store closes at 11PM but it takes a few minutes after to finish up paperwork).

so it is around 6:50PM and i get a phone call on my cell, there are no customers in the store so i answer it. (normally i consider it unprofessional to answer my personal phone while on the sales floor)

ME: "hello"

Hannah (my GF): hey, so i know you are at work, but i kinda got in a little car accident and need a ride..

ME: are you ok?

GF: fine. but i am going to the urgent care center to get checked out, i'm just a little too shaky to drive myself.

ME: what happened.

GF: i slid on some gravel and rolled the car over into a ditch.

ME: onto it's roof?! Hannah thats not a little accident. are you ok?
(this went on for a few repetitions, i was a little surpirsed, i mean "little acident"? come on...)
::
so long story short i got someone to cover and went and got her, made it back in time to close the store and then dropped her off at home, i also got the full story from her
::

Hannah was driving down a gravel road on the way back from dropping off one of the kids the DHS (she works for the county department of humen services out there) is in charge of and came in to a corner a bit hot in a 95(ish) astro van owned by the county. she started to slide and hit the brakes, the tires locked (according to her, she yelled "f**k monkeys" and closed her eyes) and she slid in to the ditch ending up on her roof hanging from the seatbelt. she unbuckled and opened the drivers door to escape. a passing motorist gave her a ride back to work (a little over 50 minutes away, nice folks)

work does not seem mad that she destroyed one of the 3 cars the DHS in saint helens has at it's disposal. and she gets tomorrow off.

tonight was weird. Shocked my girlfriend (a bad driver to be honest) ROLLED a van onto it's roof and yet is unharmed.

she was more shaken up then anything else. to be honest though it was really just a matter of time, she is NOT a good driver. i always figured she would rear end someone though. she is one of those drivers who increases stopping force up until they are stopped, what i mean is when she begins to stop she is lightly on the brake, and as she nears the intersection or obstacle she gradually increases braking force, by the time she stops she is almost full on the brakes and barley stops the car in time. there have been a few instances driving with her when i have felt she was about to hit someone, and one for sure where if i had not yelled STOP she would have rear ended an SUV. it is downright scary. i am trying to instill some better stopping habits in her, but it is slow going...

perhaps i should convince her to take driving school or something. she could get really hurt next time....

it was a 1995 yes. re-reading that it does seem confusing. one thing Hannah does not do is speed. in fact this is her first real accident ever. mostly she just hits things in parking lots. i have replaced more light plastic on that car then i care to think about.

Good thing she had on the seatbelt, main thing is she is not hurt.

Wow, glad to hear she's OK! Those Astro vans are total death traps if they arent taken meticulous care of (ask me how many I've seen come in, in the last 3 months with ball joints broken off and the wheel under the car lol).

You should let her start driving the GTA for work, Tony. Atleast it wont roll as easily Wink

Man, Astro Vans = total crap. A friend of mine had a ball joint start to when he was driving. Damn thing was barely over 100K. Rolling Eyes Way to top heavy too, and if you ever get rearended they take it like an accordion.

Laughing so hard it hurts

The only mini-van you can put a 350 in, too bad they suck like that! How the heck do the ball joints break? Wtf?

Good thing she or anyone else didn't get hurt. That could have ended badly.
