Hi Guys. Been gnawing away at a small problem, one that has usually only been an annoyance, not a major issue.

My fathers 1987 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 Ton 350 TBI truck has always had an idle issue. It never stops searching for one. the fluctuations are all below 1000. I would say, especially on warm up, then when it finally idles down, it searches, every few seconds from 500-800. Recently, it has died going from park to drive, probably because I hit it right when it was searching.

Otherwise the truck runs great and has some good power. Motor has 144,000 Miles on it. Good Compression. Some smoke on startup, thats it. I did replace the EGR valve on it with some luck for a while, but then the search came back.

Also, as a side note, I cannot find an IAC anywhere on the aircleaner, and I know this year has a unique computer.

Ideas?

Thanks! Smile

Clean out the IAC, it is a 4 pin connector, located just to the rear of the TPS sensor on the throttle body. Once you have done that, key it on, that will move the motor to its park position, key off, and unplug the IAC, start the car, and adjust the idle so it idles at around 450rpm, then turn it off, and plug the IAC back in, see how it does then.

Thank you Jon. I will get on that now and hopefully fix it.
