Hey, welcome to the site dude. Smile

For us to help you out you need to give us some background on your car. is it fuel injected, or a carb?

Will it stay running after its warmed up and just not idle when its cold?

Let us know the background and I'm sure between us all we can help you out.

It won't idle cold or warm. I can keep it running with my foot in the gas but thats about it. Its TPI and just runs like crap. I dont know what to do, and Tim has tried about everything he knows what to do so far. This is pretty much his first TPI car to work on he said, so new to him too but we cant figure a thing out.. and its also auto if you need to know that.

Yeah, I figured it was TPI by your name, but just wanted to make sure it wasnt another car or something. Smile

Have you checked your fuel pressure? And are you throwing any codes also....

Try setting the TPS voltage and IAC position.

Did fuel pressure it was fine. It is not throwing any codes and Tim said he did the IAC just not the TPS yet. So i guess we can still try that. We'll let ya know how it goes thanks guys

Injectors? Would that pop up a code or reflect on fuel pressure?

Does the car have gas in it?

I dont wanna make you sound stupid... but my buddy and I spent a good 3 hours of searching for vacuum leaks when I hear him say "Oh, duh, there is no gas"

You know... in our minds hunting and pecking for hoses that were not connected seemed to be the most logical way of doing things... I am sure HAD we put gas in it we could of found the vacuum leaks a lot better (oddly enough, we didn't find any leaks until after the car was started Duh).

We are just teenagers, we lack wisdom. You should see us try and weld. Laughing

Sounds like you should just sell the whole thing.

To me.

(just kidding).

Vacuum leaks is the very next thing you should look into. An easy way to do this is to get some carb cleaner and spray it around the hoses/engine-bay while you have a buddy keep it running (as absolutely steady as possible). If you get an RPM jump when you hit an area with carb cleaner, you found a leak.

You can also take it to a shop and have them do a smoke check for leaks. Thats the best way, but will cost you a little cash.

Once you've eliminated the possibility of vacuum leaks, check your TPS voltage with the throttle at idle and make sure its between .54 and .60 volts. This is crucial so set your laziness aside and borrow a multimeter if you have to. They're common. They're cheap.

How does the car run at higher RPMs?

yeah yeah laziness, just its my cousins car and its hard to find the time to get over there and help him learn the car and what to do and to fix it with him. im tryin im tryin. but yeah the car dont run to bad as long as i have foot in the gas to keep it running, its a lil rough, throttle response isnt too bad but it could be better. Thanks help though ill check on vacuum leaks
