FINALLY finish up the body lift/crossmember/tire carrier for the Jeep yesterday.

Driving to work today... the check engine light comes on.

Go out on my break and find a vacuum line that fell off. Nice limp rubber. Slid it back on for now. Light still on.

Go to autozone on my lunch (They code read '96+ vehicles free) turns out it's reading a vacuum leak type problem. So I get a new elbow for the vac line, put it on.,

All the while the girl there is babbling about how I should put a K&N Intake kit on and that I'll get 20mpg like her friend with an '03 rubicon. Yeah that's like.... 6mpg higher than any rubicon is rated. IIRC they are rated 14city18hwy. And to get 20 on average.. yeah no way. I get 15...16 on a good tank.

And then she tells me how the open element will give the motor more air, more power, more milage. And that you want 7 parts air to 1 part fuel...

AFR of 7:1? Yeah I don't think so. She says it was in the past that they wanted 14.7 now "because of how cars are built now" they want 7:1.

I'm like... um yeah I'll take that into consideration.... buh bye.

Just got home.. light is still on. Going to change oil and unplug the battery and hope it resets.

OBDII will not reset by disconnecting the battery. You have to use the code reader to clear the memory.

From all we are told OBDII memory shouldn't erase itself.

I dunno, I've had codes clear on my 01 camaro when I disconnect the battery and reconnect.

Particularly when I used to get a SES pretty regularly before I replaced the aft-cat O2 sensor.

Don't know if my 96 Ford is OBOII or I but it will reset when disconnecting the batteries.

There is different types of codes. If it is a soft code it will turn the light out by unplugging the bat. since it will no longer see the problem. Although once the problem is fixed the light will turn out anyways after so many drive cycles, but it's a lot of drive cycles. If it's a hard code you will have to turn it off with the scan tool. You can't get rid of it by unplugging the bat. since it will be stored in the vehicles memory.

Which explains why the girlfriends escort wont click off on the O2 code, but the jeep did on the vacuum leak.

Not sure what code the plugs would have set off.

Either way, all day wheelin with no SES light. Misa happy camper.
