So I hooked up my amp. At first I hooked the remote wire to the antenna remote. But the amp only came on when my radio was on but turned off with cd. so obviously the antenna shuts off when cd comes on. so I jammed the wire into the direct 12v power for the reciever.

So now my question is this. Since my amp is now on constantly, how much of a drain on the battery can I expect? Same as if I had an alarm on? And without adding in a switch what would be the next best place to wire the remote wire if keeping it on all the time will kill my battery, after not driving it for a day.

Your deck will have two seperate power wires. One constant and one switched. I think they are yellow and red, red being switched and yellow being constant, but I could be wrong. Hook the remote to the amp up to the switched wire.

ok, I will try that. the power wire I hooked it to. was the yellow which went somewhere that I couldn't follow because of the wire clump. beside it was another spot. red or black i will stick it in that side and see if that works. thanks.

all right, success. I just started touching the wire to other wires when the amp was on and off and found one that only gets power when the car is on. My first amp job, and it works. I am very happy. Only took 8 hours. Next time I have to do this should be done waaaay quicker.
