note the damage on the driver side bumper. I am having that repaired within the next 2 weeks. one thing i noticed on this car is aside from that hit and run damage the bumper had very little in the way of marks that is usually the case with this style of car from scraping parking medians.
I also want to get the black portion of the t-tops and the hatch painted. Anyone have any idea on whether this is worth taking to a shop or should i just brush paint them and wetsand the heck out of it before clear coating. I have been waiting to wash my car when the bumper gets replaced and repainted. Looking forward to that. Worth waxing or is their a better solution for a nice shine? |

Very nice, clean Firebird!
On the black strips on the outside edge of the t-tops, I would just scuff them up a little bit with sandpaper, use a rattle can primer and then a rattle can black. They are easy to mask off to keep paint off of the glass and it makes them look good as new. I did this to mine 4 or 5 years ago and they still look good. It is not very expensive if you do need to do it again down the road.
On the paint I can't tell if there is a lot of oxidation or not. In the pictures it looks pretty good. So, assuming that the paint is in good shape and you just want to shine it up a bit I would claybar the paint, give a good cleaner wax coat and then put on one of the newer waxes like Meguiar's NXT. It should be nice and shiny after that and you can just put a coat of the NXT on it every once in a while to maintain it.
If you get new paint on the repair make sure to NOT wax it for whatever time frame the body shop recommends. If you put wax on new paint it will not cure properly.
Again, nice car and welcome!

I have the appointment set for my cars bumper. Going to Kirmac on the 12th of February. They appear to be pretty busy for the next couple weeks. I guess the snow took its toll. Right now I am looking for a dashpad. I haven't been able to find one in good enough condition to warrant buying it. Anyone try those dashpad caps I see when i do a search? I am thinking about one of those but would prefer an original. The Junkyards around here have a firebird void. The ones they do have in there are all missing their dash pad or it is so messed up it isn't worth pulling. |
