Back in Early summer Chris and I hauled away SellmanB's Berlinetta, which Chris ended up with and has almost completetly fixed, along with a buch of other junk from Bobbys garage. My payment for the job was a set of used LS1 front brake calipers, pads and a few other random parts.

Since its all icky outside i have been working on projects inside the house, here is what i have done with the brake calipers over the last few months:

both were painted with what appeared to be acrylic outdoor paint. i used stripper to get that off. here is a picture of one of the calipers covered in this NASTY stripper. i got some on my skin and it burned. harsh stuff.

Here is a photo of the first one stripped and the second one with paint intact.

Take note of the imperfections and dents in these calipers. I do not know where Bobby got these originally but they were well used. The calipers looked as though they had been kicked around in some ones garage for a while. This simply would not do. I set about sanding the hell out of them, both to remove the dents and cuts, but also to remove the casting imperfections. I sanded for days, usualy while watching movies on my laptop. i started out with some 120 and 150 for realy taking off material, then moved to 180 for removing the scratches from that and final shaping, then moved on to 220 and finished it all up with 400.

As you can see in the picture i only did the fronts and sides, not the whole caliper. This would simply have been more work then it's worth IMO since without removing the wheel no one will see the tops of the calipers due to the low clearence on the GTA wheels i want to get.

Shocked

If only I used my downtime so wisely. I have a door popper out on my shaved door on the pro street. (curse you rain!) SO getting into my car from the passenger side is a little Confused but, right now its 30 degrees and blowing 20mph and the garage is filled with the old man's collectibles. So yeah.

Awesome job xopher.

Looking nice, man. Although cats + paint stripper.... No no no...

BTW, where you up in Lakewood Washington recently? I saw a white '86 Bird with Oregon plates in the parking lot where I work and it reminded me a lot of yours.

Laughing Wow.

That really did make me feel somewhat comforted yet slightly disturbed at the same time.

At least you don't go doing circles around the local mall yelling at high school ricers from the passenger window of your friends thirdgen.

I asked one "race team" if boeing knew that they had those wings.

Ahaha. I am glad that you guys enjoyed that. I always thought it was funny, no one on the receiving end did though. Once they get mad we have a hard time driving from the laughter. They, meaning the usual but not every ricer, takes themselves waaay too seriously.

Since we are walking down trash talking memory lane here are my favorite most disrespectful moments I have created:

1. In a 5.0 94 stang I took off the car lot, (very very slow, very very loud) me and a buddy went to a local import car meet. I tried making small talk, just seeing if any gearheads were there. I mean, hell, you could drive a fiat with a can and still be cool, I think. But they all were extremely zenophobic so I decided I was getting irked. I did huge donut in front of them, smoke flying all over the safeway parking lot. At the end of it, I open my door, step into the smoke and yell. V T E C !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was cool.

2. After downloading the soundtrack to fast and the furious 3,Tokyo Drift, we hookup up with another friend who has this fetish for stripping in public. I wish I was kidding. And yes, its a guy. Hop in my dads blacked out 1 ton 85 silverado and head to a similiar car meet. Its mid summer, lot is packed. 100 plus cars. (thats packed for peninsula standards) We rigged the bed with speakers and proceeded to drive around through each car isle with the theme song to the movie (you know the one) while my friend strip teases the ricers in the back of the truck. Midway through the car meet my shotgun riding buddy gets on the CB radios bull horn and starts saying: Hey, WELCOME to the official car show of the 17 second club!!! Enjoy the stripper....and so forth. It got ugly. We burned out and left as some civic hatch kids tried to block our exit so they could " Beat our gay asses".

Laughing

Again, I'm not overly proud of myself for giving into the import vs domestic battle. But I can't help it somtimes. Hey, this post is waay too long.

We must have the same infection. I was doing the same thing with a buddy last night against a hatch with purple fog lights. No such luck.

*EDIT* didn't see the coffee throwing line. That had me laughing HARD.
Should of told him to do his weight reduction mods in the garage bay and not on the road.

I need a carbon fiber girlfriend.

Aww. Great times. lmao.

And to xopher, thank you for letting me hijack your thread. Great work again by the way. Smile

I'm the one that originally designed and built the Wilwood brake kit and sold them to Spohn. Ask Dewey.......Schultz. ect. abut this. I've modded many spindles and there is NO difference between an 83 spindle or a 92 spindle. I heard the same rumor as you, and compared many of them and there isn't any difference at all in any way, shape, or form. So don't waste your time and money on anything other than what you have on your car now.

Tony,
I think your plan is to get GTA wheels back on your car right? Will those brakes fit?

The work sure looks good. You have those calipers looking sweet.
