Well, I did my part last night to knock down another Mustang. I'm going down the highway and I pass a kid driving a 5.0 LX with a huge wing on the back. Overall it was in pretty good condition so I assume the engine was too. He also had a little buddy following him in a Mustang 0.5 (4 cylinder). Anyway, he's going a little under the speed limit checking out people as they drive by. Been there and done that. I know he's looking for trouble.
He checks me out as I drive by and is disappointed when he realizes I'm just a big sedan. So I continue crusing down the road but now I'm getting bad thoughts... There's a stop light ahead and I purposefully slowed down to make sure I got caught at a red light. Sure enough, as soon as the light turns red the kid jumps in the other lane and pulls up beside me. He starts to roll forward as the lights change over. So I just matted it and gave it all I had. I pull two lengths on him through first gear and continue to hold him back two lengths through second gear! I tap my brakes to let him know it's over and he just continues to go as hard as he can. He roars by me as if he's the victor.
Buddy, you just got schooled by a 4000lb luxury sedan (slightly modified). |

Oldsmobile Aurora.
The good ol' IRL rated 4.0L v-8. My buddy and I drive his around all the time, put to shame many of ricers, mustangs, and even camaro's.
I freaking love those boats of a car. Too bad it is FWD and heavy as hell, or it would be fun to really deck out. _________________

What's even better.......those Aroura SC V8's will strap right into the wife's GTP!! Thought about doing it later down the road, but I already don't have much fun changing sparks plugs in it.... _________________

If you want to do an engine swap I would use the Caddy 4.6L engine. It's the same physical dimensions but with a larger bore. This unshrouds the valves quite a bit and makes the Caddy heads flow much better than the Aurora heads. The same effort to make about 300Hp with the Aurora engine will give you about 360Hp with the Caddy engine. And the performance diverges even more from there. Check out www.chrfab.com for hot engine packages.
I would also recommend you get an OBD I engine. The OBD II engines don't have aftermarket support for software. You can still get programmers and modify the tuning on OBD I. CHRfab also sells a DFI system that plugs into the factory wiring harness but that's a lot of money for the benefit you get. |

Thanks for the cool info, even if it is just a dream. _________________

Did I mention that the Northstar (and Aurora 4.0) can pull 8000 rpm with a new set of valve springs? There is no problem at all making 420+ Hp with cams and headwork. The only problem is that you can't buy the other stuff to actually make it work in the original car. But your Camaro chassis would solve that problem. |
