I was reading up on tgo, but I couldn't find the name for the LSD that I have. So help me out if you can, cause I don't know what to call it! Its a cone/screw type, no clutches. There are springs in the middle that push the axle spider gears into the case.

And can you put in different colored (spring rate) springs in to change the binding point?

a "torsen" limited slip. ......i think.

torsen is short for TORque SENsing. "zexel" is usualy the brand that makes them.

That's not a zexel.

That's an Auburn posi.

Stockers on our cars, but you can buy new ones. Non-rebuildable.

This is a Zexel :

Relink the pic, i want to see what one looks like.

I thought it was a stock type, but it didn't really fit the description. It seems to be doing a good job so far! It only locks up when a wheel starts to spin. Which is nice, unless its raining. Hehe.

I can see that its not rebuildable. There's nothing to replace! Can you get different springs tho?

ya, this one does not have clutches. The case spider gears are normal, but the axle spiders are deep and have screw shaped cones that spin into the case when the gears start to spin due to tire spin. It has those springs in the middle to help push the screws into the case. Sounds like a good idea and i like how graceful it performs. Is this still an Auburn?

Those "cones" are the "clutches"

Yes, it is an auburn. I did a search, and found a good explaination of how they work.

Quote:
The Auburn Gear limited slip uses a cone style clutch that wears directly against the carrier case and provides the friction force to make the unit work. This design is not rebuildable. Once the cone clutch or case wears out, the entire unit must be replaced. Even with this shortcoming, this design works well for occasional use where extra traction is needed. They have good impact strength in passenger cars and trucks up to 1 ton. They will hold up well to high horse power, but will not last long if there is a lot of tire spinning. (aftermarket) 1-year warranty

nice Get down and Boogie! So as long as I don't put a turbo on my V6 car it should last a bit then! Thanks for the help with that, I'm gaining knowledge, but I'm still a little rear end illiterat.

Are there any advantages to using more LSD Friction Lube? There's only one tube worth in it right now, but would two be better to increase "clutch" friction and decrease wear?

I wouldn't put more than 1 in. The additive is to keep it from chettering. Too much, and you may turn it into a limit-less slip. Wink. You need the friction, to make it work right.

if you increase friction you would increase wear. (provided it still slips, which is what the lube makes it do). more lube will make it slip more, and decrease wear (as well as decrease posi-ness). if you had NO lube at all it would make it more locked and less slip, and would also wear it out faster then you could imagine.

Not completely off topic I hope, but my friend just got done with his tremec swap about a month ago. He put in a detroit locker, made only for original open diffs I am told, and what a unit that is!

Different feel due to design, but the grip and grab is phenominal.

Anyone else on here have one?

Is this a powertraxx type ratcheting locker, or is this a full locker?

I like to have my tires turn at their intended different speeds around corners.... real locker, even the powertrax on the mountain road twisties = instant oversteer.

I am told, as a locker noob, that it unlocks during cornering or does something in as the way to work "normally" to allow for no driving difference.

Ordered out of summit. It is for "heavy street use"

I hope that makes some sense. I miss my damn car. Mad
